AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships – Asian Men’s Ranking

The AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships will be starting with its first competition day in Budapest in 13 days where plenty of the Asian teams are aiming for medals. Kazakhstan, India and Uzbekistan are the Top3 nations in the ranking of the men competitions of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships from our continent.
Kazakhstan claimed three gold medals in the history of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and their boxers took 11 podium places since 2008. Shalkar Aikynbay and Ablaikhan Zhussupov won the titles in 2014 and their third one was achieved by Sadriddin Akhmedov in St. Petersburg two years ago. Ablaikhan Zhussupov is on the best way to be in the top of the elite boxers as well following his bronze medal in the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships.
India also achieved three titles in the men’s part of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships since 2008. Nanao Thokchom Singh won the light flyweight (48kg) in Guadalajara 10 years ago, Vikas Krishan Yadav the lightweight (60kg) in 2010 and Sachin Siwach Singh the light flyweight (49kg) in 2016. Since then Vikas Krishan Yadav claimed gold in the Asian Games and qualified for two Olympic Games.
Uzbekistan acquired altogether 16 medals in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships but among them only two were gold since 2008. Akmalbek Kosimov (2012) and Bektemir Melikuziev (2014) both won the welterweight (69kg) with strong performances. Melikuziev is one of the biggest Asian elite stars in our present days following his silver in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and two titles in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships.
China and Japan both bagged one gold medal in the history of the event while Philippines, South Korea and Kyrgyzstan taken at least one bronze since 2008. Thailand never claimed any medal in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships but their strong team is planning to get at least one in this level in Budapest.
AIBA changed the name of this 17-18 year-old age group from junior to youth in 2008 therefore the first edition of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships was held 10 years ago in Guadalajara. Since then four European cities such as Baku, Yerevan, Sofia and St. Petersburg hosted the men’s part of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships.
