The Indramaya Maharjan Memorial Invitational Championships will be held in January 9-10

The upcoming 1st edition of the Indramaya Maharjan Memorial Invitational Boxing Championships will be held in Chandragiri, Nepal on January 9-10, 2019. Nepal will be hosting the next edition of the South Asian Games and the country is even more active in the international boxing stage and launched a new event.
The Indramaya Maharjan Memorial Invitational Boxing Championships will start the long road of the international competitions in the busy year of 2019. The Press Meeting of the Indramaya Maharjan Memorial Invitational Boxing Championships was held in Kathmandu where the officials introduced the event to the local media and press.
President of the Nepal Boxing Association Mr. Ram Awale also attended in the Press Meet of the competition. The organizer of the Indramaya Maharjan Memorial Invitational Boxing Championships is the Boshigaun Sports Club. Nepal’s last Asian Games medallist in boxing Mr. Deepak Maharjan is the President of the Boshigaun Sports Club who shared his opinions with the local media and ASBC.
“We are organizing this event in memory of those who lost their lives in the devastating earthquake in 2015, including my mother Indramaya Maharjan. I am grateful to the main sponsor of the event, Machhindra Brick Kiln and all others who have extended their support for the championship,” said Mr. Deepak Maharjan in the Press Meet.
Host Nepal, Bhutan and India will be attending in the historical first edition of the Indramaya Maharjan Memorial Invitational Boxing Championships. Nepal will be represented the event with two teams, India sends their top boxers from the Haryana region while Bhutan’s best athletes are planning to take part in the event.
Four women’s weight classes will be held in the Indramaya Maharjan Memorial Invitational Boxing Championships: light flyweight (48kg), flyweight (51kg), bantamweight (54kg) and lightweight (60kg). The men boxers will be able to attend in seven weight categories from the light flyweight (49kg) up to the middleweight (75kg).
Each weight category will have four athletes at the Indramaya Maharjan Memorial Invitational Boxing Championships in Chandragiri. The top three boxers in all weight categories will be getting money prizes of Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 following the finals in January 10.
