Zhussupov, Altynbek, Toltayev snag titles in Kazakhstan elite meet

Defending world champion Temirtas Zhussupov as well as Asian youth titlists Nursultan Altynbek and Sanatali Toltayev displayed their pedigree as they captured gold medals in the Kazakhstan Elite Men National Championships 2022 in Pavlodar.

The 34-year-old Zhussupov made a roaring return after missing out on the ASBC Asian Elite Championships last month, putting up a 5-0 rout of Yernur Kayrat to reign in the minimumweight (48kg) division.

Dubai 2021 ASBC youth winner Altynbek earned the nod of all five judges by using his speed against Bekzat Aldamzharov in a tight contest in the bantamweight (54kg) class.

Toltayev came through with a vengeful 5-0 victory over another ex-Asian youth champ Mukhammedsabyr Bazarbayuly in the anticipated light welterweight (63.5kg) final.

Meanwhile, ASBC youth titlist and Strandja Memorial Tournament silver medalist Abzal Serik smothered Temirkhan Tezek, 5-0, for the welterweight (67kg) title.

Youth world silver finishers Yerbolat Sabyr and Yermakhan Zhakpekov posted 5-0 beatdowns over Orazbek Assylkulov in featherweight (57kg) and 2021 youth world champion Sabyrzhan Akkalykov in light middleweight (71kg), respectively.

Veteran pug Shaimurat Kusainov shocked two-time Asian youth winner Sagyndyk Togambay with a third-round stoppage to nab the cruiserweight (86kg) gold.

The number of the boxers was 199 in the Kazakhstan Men’s Elite National Championships and thirteen boxers will be crowned after the finals in Pavlodar. Twenty teams from all regions and cities from Kazakhstan participated in the National Championships in Pavlodar where Almaty and Turkistan region both had 17-17 participating boxers.

Pavlodar was the host of the 2016 edition of the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and the city organized a few national events in the recent years. Kazakhstan proved amazing performance in the recent big events including the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships and many of their top boxers received rests after the Amman edition.

Asian Boxing Confederation and Kazakhstan Boxing Federation Vice-President Mr. Aziz Kozhambetov oversaw the competition together with neutral observer Mr. Pat Fiacco and main organizer Mr. Azamat Makazhanov.
