Young guns shined in the Syrian Elite National Championships

Syria hosted its Elite Men’s National Boxing Championships in the Teshrin Sports Complex in Damascus. Mostly their young U22 talents won the gold medals in the National Championships due to the absence of their stars.

The squad of Latakia won the team rankings in the Syrian Elite National Championships ahead of the Hama and the city of Tartous. The team of Qunaitra finished fourth in the ranking, the city of Damascus on the fifth and the Student Boxing Club on the sixth.

Tartous’ Ali Mohammed had routine from the youth competition and those paid off in the final of the flyweight (51kg) against Mohamed Sahione. Another boxer from the city of Tartous, Hakem Mohamed succeeded in the national event, he defeated Asad Al-Sheikh at the light heavyweight (80kg).

Hama’s talented Haider Thaljie returned to the boxing competitions and he captured the title of the men’s lightweight (60kg) in the Teshrin Sports Complex after beating Oidie Abed Al-Khalek in the final.

Another strong boxer from the city of Hama, Mohamed Goukhili won one of the most busiest categories, the welterweight (67kg) in the National Championships where he succeeded over the experienced Haidar Al-Asaly.

Syria sent eight boxers to a Tunisian training camp, which is part of their preparations for the upcoming main competitions. Their best boxers such as the Asian Games medallist Ahmad Ghossoun, the ASBC medallist Mohamed Moulayes and Alaaldin Ghossoun all are preparing in Tunisia with the local boxers.

Their management is planning to send 3-4 boxers to the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event to Bangkok, Thailand which will be held from May 26. The competition is the last chance for all of the boxers to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The President of the Syrian Boxing, Mr. Mohamed Kamel Shbib also confirmed that Syria will participate in the upcoming ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships with their five or six best talents.
