Yakub Meredov, Azizbek Achilov and Arslanbek Achilov returned with gold medals in the Turkmenistan National Championships

The Turkmenistan National Boxing Championships was held for their elite male boxers in Ashgabat which was a four-day long competition. Turkmenistan’s experienced international athletes as Yakub Meredov, Azizbek Achilov and Islamic Solidarity Games winner Arslanbek Achilov all returned with gold medals.
Turkmenistan achieved one bronze medal in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok on April where their London 2012 Olympian Nursahat Pazzyyev won that success at the men’s middleweight (75kg). Some of their top boxers missed the national event and still needed some recovery from the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships.
Dayanch Annaseidov was Turkmenistan’s best light flyweight (49kg) boxer between 2015 and 2017 but he lost his throne in 2018. Ashgabat’s experienced boxer returned to the top of the podium and won the first gold medal of the Turkmenistan National Boxing Championships. He defeated Seyitjan Babakhanov in the final of the lowest weight class and celebrated his next national title.
Yhlas Gylychjanov moved ahead step by step in the recent years and claimed national titles in the junior and youth age groups. The Ashgabat-based boxer joined to the elite age group this January and moved up to the flyweight (52kg). The 19-year-old boxer was able to reduce the fighting distance successfully and defeated Asian Games competitor Jabar Meyleyev in the second final of the Turkmenistan National Boxing Championships.
Yakub Meredov of Balkan Region was silver medallist in the last edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017 and his 10 years of experiences in the international stage paid off in the national event. The 26-year-old strong bantamweight (56kg) boxer eliminated Lukman Dovletgeldiyev in the semi-final and he was able to beat Bayramkhan Permanov in the final which was Meredov’s great comeback.
In the absence of Asian Games quarter-finalist Hursand Imankuliyev the lightweight (60kg) saw tight contests in the road to the finals and the title bout was also delivered a spit decision which was won by Shokhrat Jumayev. He was slightly better than Begmurat Halmuradov in the final while 19-year-old Arslan Shamyradov claimed bronze medal. Ashgabat’s Yunus Dovletov was not the main favourite for the title at the light welterweight (64kg) but his skills were enough to beat National Elite Champion Sunnet Annaseidov in their re-match.
Shokhrat Durdiyev represented Turkmenistan in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok but he suffered a loss in the semi-final of the welterweight (69kg) to 21-year-old Muhammet Berdybayev. The ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist Berdybayev was still enough fresh to take the title as well and beat Serdar Amangeldiyev in the final.
In the absence of Nursahat Pazzyyev the middleweight (75kg) title was taken by last year’s bronze medallist Maksat Geldinazarov who had a tight victory over Dashoguz’s Ustabek Samandarov in the final. ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Azizbek Achilov is a powerful boxer who did not give any chances to his opponents as Taganmyrat Gurbanov and Timur Jumakulov at the light heavyweight (81kg).
Islamic Solidarity Games winner and Rio 2016 Olympian Arslanbek Achilov of Lebap region dominated all of his previous national events and he remained on the throne of the heavyweight (91kg) following his RSC success against Annatagan Akmammedov. Mary’s Baky Toychiyev attended in the recent big international events but surprisingly he lost to Lebap’s Shokhrat Pirimanov in the final of the super heavyweight (+91kg).
