The semi-finals were held in the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation’s Men’s Elite National Championships which is running in the city of Uralsk. World class boxers competed in the semi-finals and the day delivered several surprises in the national event. Some of the dream finals are realized while the Oralbay twin brothers are also joined to the title contests.

The head coach of the men’s elite national team, Mr. Kayrat Satzhanov follows all of the contests and the performance of their young boxers. The Kazakhstan National Championships is also important for them to select the best hopes for the upcoming ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships which will be held in Tashkent on January 20-30.

The Kazakh male boxers earned two bronze medals at the Tokyo Olympic Games but their squad impressed in the AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships. Temirtas Zhussupov and Saken Bibossynov bagged gold medals in Belgrade, Makhmud Sabyrkhan and Serik Temirzhanov both earned silver while Ablaikhan Zhussupov took his third bronze. Their Kazakhstan National Championships will be one of their last activities after the busy year of 2021 and the best boxers can compete in the upcoming main events.

The Kazakhstan Men’s Elite National Championships have been scheduled in the official 13 weight divisions in Uralsk: minimumweight (48kg), flyweight (51kg), bantamweight (54kg), featherweight (57kg), lightweight (60kg), light welterweight (63.5kg), welterweight (67kg), light middleweight (71kg), middleweight (75kg), light heavyweight (80kg), cruiserweight (86kg), heavyweight (92kg) and super heavyweight (+92kg).

The minimumweight (48kg) is powerful in Kazakhstan, and in the absence of the AIBA World Champion Temirtas Zhussupov, two super talented teenagers advanced to the final. ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist 19-year-old Daniyal Sabit eliminated Kenzhe Muratuly while the defending AIBA Youth World Champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay eliminated Ernur Kairat in the second semi-final of the weight class.

Nursultan Nuridenov and Akmola region’s Timur Kabdeshov knew each other very well, both boxers competed in the youth age group in 2018. Since then their defensive and tactical skills increased therefore their contest was one of the tightest ones in the day of the semi-finals. Nuridenov was slightly better in the decisive last round and will be boxing for the gold medal of the flyweight (51kg) with Almaty region’s Damir Abdykadyr who bowed out Kuanysh Duisenbay.

The bantamweight (54kg) finalists are veteran Olzhas Bayniyazov and 20-year-old Talgat Syrymbetov following their tight semi-final successes. Kostanay region’s 23-year-old Aydos Arapov delivered one of the main sensations during the day of the semi-finals when he eliminated ASBC Asian Youth Champion Biybars Zheksen of Dzhambul region. Arapov will now meet for the gold medal with Orazbek Assylkulov who was also born in 1998 and eliminated a super talented youngster, Yerbolat Sabyr.

ASBC Asian Youth Champion Samatali Toltayev represented Kazakhstan in the AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships but the lightweight (60kg) boxer suffered an unexpected loss to Vasiliy Samchuk of Karagandy region. The second semi-final of this strong weight class was won by Adilet Kurmetov who competed for Kazakhstan at the 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships. Samatali’s twin brother, Sanatali also lost his semi-final, former WSB boxer, Dilmurat Mizhitov bowed him out at the light welterweight (63.5kg).

Almaty region’s Darkhan Duisebay won international tournaments this year and the 20-year-old talent remained his chance alive to take the title of the welterweight (67kg). The main favourites of the light middleweight (71kg) as Kuan Kuatov and AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Yermakhan Zhakpekov advanced to the finals. Nurkanat Raiys competed for Kazakhstan in Belgrade and the 21-year-old middleweight (75kg) boxer worked hard against Dias Molzhigitov to secure his place in the final where Ayatulla Takizhanov waits for him.

AIBA Youth World Champion Nurbek Oralbay walked over to the final of the light heavyweight (80kg) while his twin brother, Aybek is also on the way to take the gold medal at the heavyweight (92kg). The cruiserweight (86kg) is new in Kazakhstan and the favourites as two-time ASBC Asian Youth Champion Sagyndyk Togambay and Madi Amirov are both finalists.
