World champs Zhussopov, Bibossinov spearhead Kazakhs in Elorda Cup

Reigning world champions Termitas Zhussopov and Saken Bibossinov will headline the 45-strong team of Kazakhstan in the inaugural edition of the Elorda Cup that will commence on June 28 in the country’s capital city of Nur-Sultan.

Zhussopov and Bibossinov, who punched their way to the gold medal in the minimumweight and flyweight divisions, respectively, of the AIBA World Boxing Championships 2021, will aim to keep their dominance in their classes.

World silver medalists Makhmud Sabyrkhan and Serik Termizhanov will look to showcase their huge improvement in the event which was organized by the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation.

Other notable fighters in Aslanbek Shymbergenov, Beybarys Zheksen, Daniyal Sabit, Oralbay twins Aibek and Nurbek, Toltayev twins Sanatali and Samatali, Abzal Serik and Yelnur Suyunbay will also look to make the home fans proud.

The Kazakh boxers are expected to have their hands full against the top pugs from Cuba, Uzbekistan, India, Mongolia and the other participating national federations.

Gold medalists will receive 700 USD while silver and bronze finishers will earn 400 and 200 USD, respectively, in the international tilt that replaced the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup.

The Elorda Cup will also serve as a preparatory tournament for much bigger upcoming competitions such as the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
