World Champions as Huang and Chen are Chinese Taipei’s top stars in Busto Arsizio

Chinese Taipei still has strong potential with female stars in their line-ups at the upcoming 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event to Busto Arsizio, Italy despite their amazing performance in the Asian Games.

Chinese Taipei exceeded all of the previous expectations with their four quota places at the Asian Games in Hangzhou a few months ago. Lin Yu Ting (women’s 57kg), Wu Shih Yi (women’s 60kg), Lai Chu En (men’s 63.5kg) and Kan Chia Wei (men’s 71kg) are already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Chinese Taipei’s national team impressed at the Boxam Tournament in Spain where all of their participating boxers claimed at least a medal. This Olympic cycle could be their best ever and record-breaking period in the country’s boxing life.

Kuo Yi Hsuan is a 19-year-old talent who shined in the previous Youth World Boxing Championships and in the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships. The energetic boxer moved up to the light flyweight (50kg) and the 1st World Olympic Qualifier will be her elite debut in the international competitions.

Huang Hsiao Wen is a two-time World Champion and Olympic Games bronze medallist star who had a tight loss in the Asian Games therefore she is not a quota holder yet. The bantamweight (54kg) boxer could be a difficult opponent to anyone in Busto Arsizio and she has a strong chance to secure a spot after Tokyo as well.

Chen Nien Chin is one of the best boxers at the women’s welterweight (66kg) in the whole globe and her Olympic expectations are high. Before the Games, she has to compete first in the World Olympic Boxing Qualifier where she is probably the strongest boxer among the registered athletes. The World Champion and Asian Champion became the Best Female Boxer at the recent Boxam Tournament which was her last preparation event.

Tu Po Wei had some unlucky draws in the previous years but he has 11 years of experience in the international competitions. He reached the quarter-finals in the 2023 World Boxing Championships and only Thailand’s star, Thitisan Panmot stopped him in a hectic contest at the Asian Games.

Chinese Taipei’s best male featherweight (57kg) boxer, Lee Cheng Wei will be turning 25 later this year and he has the experience from the previous Asian Games and ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
