Veterans dazzle in Singapore National Championships

National team veterans Efasha Binte Kamarudin, Rafhana Binte Rosli and Danial Abdul Jalil flaunted their experience to come out victorious in the Singapore National Championships 2023 held recently at the Bedok Sports Hall.

Kamarudin and Rosli, who represented the country in previous editions of the ASBC Asian Elite Championships, proved too much to handle for Nean Tzu Lam in women’s flyweight (52kg) and Hailey Cheong Sze Yenn in bantamweight (54kg), respectively.

Sofea Welliya won the lone female weight class among the youth boxers following her success over Keana Ng at the light flyweight (50kg).

The male athletes fought in two youth and two elite weight classes in the National Championships. For the novice boxers who have less experiences in the competitions, there were eight weight categories in the National Championships.

On the other hand, the Asian Elite Championships Tashkent 2017 campaigner Jalil crushed Chan Zhao Jie in the men’s lightweight (60kg) final.

Five more champions were crowned in the tournament that served as a selection for the Southeast Asian Games 2023 set in Cambodia on May 5-17.

The Vice President of their Singapore Boxing Federation Mr. Faisal Hussain arranged the event in Singapore City. Singapore is looking to improve its lone bronze medal haul in both the past two boxing tournaments of the SEA Games.

The winners also strengthened their bid to compete in other upcoming international tilts.
