Uzbekistan rules reputable Romanian boxing tournament

The Uzbekistan national boxing team reaped six gold, four silver and two bronze medals to reign supreme in the 50th Golden Belt Tournament held from April 3 to 9 at the Polivalenta Hall in the historical city of Targu Mures, Romania.

Eighteen-year-old minimumweight (48kg) sensation Asilbek Jalilov proved that his victories in the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) Asian U22 Championships and the Elite National Championships were no fluke as he demolished Andriy Yefymovich of Ukraine, 5-0, in their title match to jumpstart the Uzbek fighters’ golden campaign.

Another young star in AIBA Youth World featherweight (54kg) king and ASBC Asian U22 champion Shakhzod Muzaffarov thrashed Alik Aloyan of Georgia, 5-0, to claim the country’s second gold.

ASBC Asian U22 winner Javlonbek Yuldashev, who already has six years of international experience at the age of 19, did not need to break a sweat on his way to the welterweight (67kg) title as he prevailed via walkover against Lasha Guruli of Georgia.

ASBC Asian Elite titlist Saidjamshid Jafarov dominated his compatriot and ASBC Asian U22 winner Abdulaziz Abdupattayev, 5-0, in the middleweight (75 kg) final.

AIBA World Boxing Championships 2019 silver finisher Dilshodbek Ruzmetov took an easy walkover victory against fellow Uzbek standout Odiljon Aslonov to top the light heavyweight (86kg) division.

Closing out Uzbekistan’s stellar run was a super heavyweight (+92kg) title faceoff between its prized boxers Lazizbek Mullojonov and Jakhongir Zokirov wherein the former used his experience to outsmart the latter and pull off a 4-1 win.

Diyorbek Uralov clinched the other silver medal in the heavyweight (92kg) class while Dilshod Abdumurodov (featherweight) and Shunkor Abdurasulov (lightweight) won the bronze mints.

Meanwhile, Ireland and Germany also emerged as big winners with five and four gold medals, respectively, in the event organized by the Romanian Boxing Federation in recognition of the late Nicolae Linca, the first Olympic boxing champion of Romania.

The Uzbekistan Boxing Federation sent more than a dozen of athletes to this Golden Belt tourney as it continuously gears up for its overall title defense in the 2022 Asian Games set to be held in Hangzhou, China in September.Keep up with all of the action, news, results and photos through the following ASBC channels:
