Uzbekistan officially announced its team for the 1st World Olympic Qualifier

Uzbekistan officially confirmed its participating team at the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Busto Arsizio, Italy just before the sport entries check.

Uzbekistan achieved four quotas for the Paris Olympics through the Asian Games in Hangzhou therefore nine of their top boxers will be there at the start of the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

Nigina Uktamova, an Asian U22 Champion was the sole Uzbek female boxer who qualified for the Paris Olympics, she will represent the boxing powerhouse at the bantamweight (54kg). Three of their male stars, the Olympic and World Champions, Hasanboy Dusmatov (51kg), Abdumalik Khalokov (57kg) and Bakhodir Jalolov (+92kg) all qualified for Paris.

There was a huge rivalry between two Asian U22 Champions at the women’s light flyweight (50kg) between Feruza Kazakova and Sabina Bobokulova. After Mr. Elshod Rasulov’s decision, Sabina was finally selected to compete in this weight class in Italy due to her fantastic performance at the Strandja Memorial Tournament where she defeated China’s and India’s best boxers.

Sitora Turdibekova is also a young talent, she will be 22 this year, but at the age of 19, she already claimed a gold medal at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. Raykhona Kodirova, the Tokyo Olympian, returned to the international events last year, and she is still Uzbekistan’s best women’s lightweight (60kg) boxer.

Navbakhor Khamidova is the reigning ASBC Asian Elite and U22 Champion at the women’s welterweight (66kg) therefore her expectations are high in the upcoming event. Aziza Zokirova, the two-time Asian Youth Champion, defeated all of her main national rivals including Mavluna Mavlonova and Sokhiba Ruzmetova to compete at the women’s middleweight (75kg) in Italy.

Ruslan Abdullayev is the defending World Champion at the light welterweight (63.5kg) but he lost his first contest in the Asian Games therefore the 22-year-old boxer will be there in Busto Arsizio. Another World Champion, the impressive Asadkhudja Muydinkhudjayev has been selected to compete at the men’s light middleweight (71kg).

Turabek Khabibullayev (80kg) is the youngest male team member in Busto Arsizio, the Youth World Champion and Asian Games bronze medallist was named as the Best Boxer in the recent Boxam Tournament as well. The World Championships bronze medallist Lazizbek Mullojonov will strengthen Team Uzbekistan at the men’s heavyweight (92kg) with strong hopes to qualify for Paris.
