Utegenov and Merzhanov are the stars at the Uzbekistan Junior National Cup
The Uzbekistan Boxing Federation hosted four national events since the Doha 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships in the recent weeks. Their fifth one was the Uzbekistan Junior National Cup which was held in the capital city of the strong boxing nation in Tashkent which hosted also the 2015 ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships.
Boxers who were born in 2000 and in 2001 could compete in the national event which means the next year’s junior athletes attended in the Uzbekistan Junior National Cup. This age group can fight at the boxing tournament of the Children of Asia Games in Yakutsk, Russia next July which will be the main Asian event for the juniors in 2016.
Tashkent region and the city of Andizhan both won four gold medals in the Uzbekistan Junior National Cup and became the most successful teams. The boxers could compete in fifteen different weight classes in Tashkent where the LOC still added the 42 kg and the 44 kg categories next to the other 13 official divisions. Three boxers competed in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Tashkent on June and these experienced juniors won their weight classes in the Uzbekistan Junior National Cup.
One of their most experienced boxer in this age group is Halimbek Utegenov who claimed silver medal in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Tashkent and bagged gold at the Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup in Azerbaijan. The 15-year-old boxer was bronze medallist at the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships in St. Petersburg three months ago. He moved up to the Light Bantamweight class (52 kg) and won the gold medal in Tashkent after beating Abdulbasid Khamidov of Namangan.
ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist 15-year-old Temurbek Sadullayev also proved his skills in the whole year and won a national title in Tashkent. He moved up one category to the Light Welterweight class (63 kg) and the Tashkent region’s boxer dominated his final over Manguberdy Abdurasulov of Ferghana.
Timur Merzhanov was gold medallist at the AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships in St. Petersburg and also in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Tashkent on home soil in spite of the fact he is spending only his first year in the junior age group. He moved up two categories into the Light Middleweight class (70 kg) and defeated all of his rivals including Ilkham Gengebayev in the gold medal contest.
The first gold medal of the Uzbekistan Junior National Cup was achieved by Sadirbek Kamolmirzayev of Ferghana who defeated Asadbek Saifullayev of Namangan in the final of the 42 kg weight class. Samandar Holmurodov of Dzhizak and Asadbek Abdukadyrov of Andizhan won the further gold medals of the national event.
Abdulaziz Abdupattayev won the Uzbekistan Junior National Championships on June and he was able to repeat that performance in Tashkent where he outpointed Jakhongir Pazlidinov. Javlonbek Yuldashev also claimed gold medal at the Uzbekistan Junior National Championships in Andizhan half year ago. Since then he moved up two categories into the Light Flyweight class (48 kg) and eliminated Anvar Nasreddinov in the gold medal bout. Ikboljon Muradov won the last gold medal of the Uzbekistan Junior National Cup and continued his winning path after their last national events.
