Usmonov, Negmatulloev and returning Qurbonov are also members of the Tajik team in Belgrade

Tajikistan Boxing Federation selected its travelling 8-strong team to the upcoming AIBA World Boxing Championships. Tajikistan’s ASBC Asian Champion Bakhodur Usmonov, Tokyo Olympian Shabbos Negmatulloev and former Asian Games winner veteran Jakhon Qurbonov are also members of the team.

Tajikistan’s first boxer, who earned medal at the AIBA World Boxing Championships was Abdusalom Khasanov in 2003 which followed Sherali Dostiyev in the next 2005 edition. Tajikistan’s third bronze medal in the history of the AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships was earned by Anvar Yunusov in the 2011 Baku edition.

Tajikistan’s experienced national coach Mr. Mirzo Shamsiyev selected eight male boxers to the AIBA World Boxing Championships. Two out of their three Tokyo Olympian boxers will be there in Belgrade where the squad will have five debutants in this level of boxing. Three of their boxers are still in the U22 level and also can compete in the 2022 ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships.

Tajikistan’s new featherweight (57kg) boxer, Khusravkhon Rakhimov is only 19 but he won several junior and youth national events, furthermore he competed in the international stage in Kazakhstan, in the UAE and in Kyrgyzstan. Abdurakhmon Yokubov is 21 currently and will represent Tajikistan in Belgrade after his participation at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.

Tajikistan’s best weapon in the upcoming event could be Bakhodur Usmonov who won the title at the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and he qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games where he won also his first bout. Saidikrom Amonov won the last two national events in Tajikistan at the welterweight (67kg) and will be making his international debut in Belgrade.

Abdumalik Boltayev had a bright junior and youth career and the 20-year-old middleweight (75kg) boxer received the right to compete at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships first time as elite. Tajikistan’s second top boxer in the national team is Shabbos Negmatulloev who qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games as a career highlight following his FISU University World Championships title from 2018.

Parviz Karimov won the Tajikistan National Spartakyad at the heavyweight (92kg) this year but the 24-year-old boxer is a newcomer in the national team. Jakhon Qurbonov is the veteran boxer of the national team who turned to 35 this year but decided to return at the super heavyweight (+92kg). Qurbonov won the titles at the 2005 Asian Boxing Championships, at the Doha 2006 Asian Games and he is two-time Olympian.
