Usmonov, Marcial, Chinzorig and Muskita among the winners of Day3 at the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event

Another two sessions were held in the third competition day of the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Amman, Jordan. Tajikistan’s ASBC Asian Champion Bakhodur Usmonov, Philippines’ Eumir Felix Marcial and Mongolia’s Chinzorig Baatarsukh were also among the winners but Indonesia’s teenage talent Maikhel Roberrd Muskita also advanced to the quarter-finals on Day3.

More than 200 boxers are competing in the event which is one of the most important Asian challenges of the year. Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, India, China, Australia, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Jordan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan and Philippines attend in the event with the biggest and strongest delegations in Amman.

Tajikistan’s Bakhodur Usmonov opened his campaign with top performance

Nepal’s Sanil Shahi eliminated Kyrgyzstan’s Argen Kadyrbek Uulu in the first competition day which was a surprise of the opening session. The South Asian Games winner Nepali boxer had to meet as second with Tajikistan’s defending ASBC Asian Champion Bakhodur Usmonov who is the Seed No.1 at the lightweight (63kg). The Tajik boxer used his fantastic footwork to catch his Nepali opponent with strict jabs and controlled all of the three rounds. Usmonov advanced to the quarter-finals where his next opponent will be Jordan’s Obada Al-Kasbeh which is the repeat match of the finals of the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships.

Philippines’ Eumir Felix Marcial controlled his debuting contest in Amman

Philippines’ Eumir Felix Marcial claimed silver medal in the last edition of the AIBA World Boxing Championships and besides to Kazakhstan’s Abilkhan Amankul, he is the favourite for the gold medal in Amman. The 24-year-old Filipino middleweight (75kg) boxer began his campaign against Australia’s 2019 National Champion Kirra Ruston who had only a few international contests. Marcial used up his experiences to control their fight which means the Seed No.1 of the weight class will be meeting for the guaranteed quota place with Mongolia’s Ahmet Comert Tournament winner Otgonbaatar Byamba-Erdene who eliminated Syria’s best boxer Ahmad Ghossoun.

Indonesia’s teenage talent Maikhel Roberrd Muskita had a crucial victory on Day3

Indonesia’s Maikhel Roberrd Muskita was born only in 2001 but the 19-year-old talent is already multiple National Champion in his homeland in various age groups. The Budapest 2018 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships competitor had to meet in a crucial battle with New Zealand’s Ryan Scaife who returned to the sport after a short break last year. Muskita had enough power and physical strength to keep the same level until the very end of the fight and his hand was raised after the last gong. Muskita’s 3:2 success means that he can box in the last eight against India’s Ashish Kumar who had a tough bout against Kyrgyzstan’s 19-year-old Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu.

Kazakhstan’s AIBA World Champion Nurdauletov and Safiullin both won their fights in Amman

Kazakhstan’s Galymbek Kenzhebayev was successful with their youth team and took over the role of the elite head coach on January 2019 and re-invented the squad adding new talents to their strong veterans. One of their young boxers is 21-year-old Bekzad Nurdauletov who became AIBA World Champion last September. The light heavyweight (81kg) boxer was technically better than New Zealand’s AIBA World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Jerome Pampellone which means Nurdauletov advanced to the last eight in Amman. His fellow, two-time ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist veteran Zakir Safiullin had a tough but successful fight over China’s Rio 2016 Olympian Shan Jun at the lightweight (63kg).

Mongolia’s Chinzorig Baatarsukh and India’s Manish Kaushik eliminated their rivals

Mongolia’s Asian Games silver medallist Chinzorig Baatarsukh is one of the most experienced lightweight (63kg) boxers who controlled his opening fight against Papua New Guinea’s John Ume in Amman. The final verdict was unanimous decision in the favour of the Mongolian who bowed out his first rival in the Qualifiers. India’s AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Manish Kaushik was too smart for Chinese Taipei’s Rio 2016 Olympian Lai Chu En and also advanced to the quarter-finals. The two stars will be meeting each other in the last eight which could be an anticipated fight in the upcoming days.
