Twenty boxers celebrated their titles in the Kabul City Boxing Championships

The Kabul City Boxing Championships was held in Afghanistan’s capital city where high number of youth and elite boxers attended for the titles in the national level event. Meerwais Oqab, Rahmatullah Omid Maiwand, Ahmad Wasiq Azizi, Mabotullah Mashal, Kefayatullah Karmand and Karman Bagrami proved they are ready to compete in the international stage in the future.
Kabul has got more than 100 boxing clubs itself within the city and Afghanistan has got more than 32,000 boxers through the whole country which means their development in our sport is continuous. Based on their high number of boxers Afghanistan has got all of the potential to reach the next stage of the development in the upcoming years.
Afghanistan is in strong developing stage in spite of the crisis and their management has been working hard for the success of boxing in the country. The Afghan boxers attended in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships, in the Asian Games, in the FISU University World Boxing Championships and also in the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament in 2018.
The men’s youth boxers could compete in ten weight classes from the light flyweight (49kg) up to the super heavyweight (+91kg) in the Kabul City Boxing Championships and athletes who were born in 2000 or in 2001 have had the right to fight in this age group. The men’s elite boxers competed also in ten different weight classes and after the finals altogether twenty champions have been celebrated their titles.
Afghanistan’s best youth boxers attended in the Kabul City Boxing Championships and among them Zemrai Panjshir impressed following his success over Rustam Maiwand in the final of the light flyweight (49kg). Afghanistan has got always tough boxers at the flyweight (52kg) where Selab Bagrami was overwhelmed Saeed Arez Shoah in the final. Mohammad Edris Maiwand (56kg), Jawad Rasikh (64kg), Ahmad Shabir Mashal (75kg), Kelash Karmand (81kg) and Mustafa Bagrami (91kg) all won their weight classes with strong performance.
The first gold medal in the elite part of the Kabul City Boxing Championships was achieved by Meerwais Oqab who defeated Naqeebullah Kodaman in the final of the elite light flyweight (49kg). Rahmatullah Omid Maiwand came from a boxing family, his brothers are also boxers and his work paid off in the final of the elite flyweight (52kg) following his success over Salim Darwesh in Kabul.
Ahmad Wasiq Azizi is an experienced boxer in the national level who stopped Hasib Afghan in the final of the elite bantamweight (56kg). Kefayatullah Karmand (64kg), Shamriz Bagrami (75kg), Shirzai Akhtari (81kg), Belal Ahmad Akhtari (91kg) and Karman Bagrami (+91kg) all won their elite weight classes defeating their rivals in Kabul.
