Turkmenistan has strong developments and future plans

Turkmenistan is a promising boxing country which is aiming for their first Olympic quotas in the upcoming 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

Turkmenistan had such a bad draw in the recent edition of the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships but their boxers proved their skills and development despite the lack of any medals in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Turkmenistan has claimed a historic gold medal at the recent ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships in Astana on November 2023 and their boxers bagged further two silver and one bronze medal.

Their boxers were near to qualify for the Paris Olympics through the Asian Games and the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Busto Arsizio, Italy.

Turkmenistan’s top boxers will be there in the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok, Thailand where Shukur Ovezov (57kg), Saparmyrat Odayev (63.5kg) and Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov (71kg) all have quota chances.

Turkmenistan sent 20 boxers to the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships and they have strong plans for the upcoming one year as well. Their head coach Mr. Tenilbek Dzhumakulov built up a strong junior, youth, U22 and elite team in the previous two years.

Mr. Durdymammet Kuljayev is the energetic Secretary General of the Turkmenistan Boxing Federation who shared the plans of the country.

“I was planning to come to Astana to discuss about the future with the ASBC officials but due to my family problems, I was not able to make the trip.

We are planning to host our next national events in June or in September and we will send boxers to as many international competitions as possible.

We have big plans in the country to host an Asian Championships in the near future and we will arrange talks with ASBC about that,” said Mr. Durdymammet Kuljayev.

Turkmenistan is planning to host an international competitions next year, the first one since the Turkmenistan International Boxing Tournament which was held on May 2006.
