Three women boxers write history in the Malaysian National Golden Gloves Tournament

The annual Malaysian National Golden Gloves Tournament was held in Terengganu which was a five-day long event. The first three ever Malaysian women champions have been crowned in the event in Terengganu where their best male duo Muhammad Fuad Bin Mohamed Redzuan and Arfiqanie Ahmad Bin Anshori both won their titles.
At the very first time in the history of the Malaysian National Golden Gloves Tournament women boxers have been added to the competition. Malaysia’s female hopes could attend in three different weight classes in the national event which was a milestone in the history of the Southeast Asian country.
Malaysia attended in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and as next their best boxers will be there in the upcoming Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament. These events are their preparations to the Southeast Asian Games which will be held in the Philippines on December.
The first female gold medal, which was a historical one, taken by Tuan Nuraleeya Nazleen Binte Norazmi who is a local hope from Terengganu and defeated Aimi Arina Binte Mohamed Tazlan in the final of the light flyweight (48kg). The final verdict was split decision in the favour of Tuan Nuraleeya Nazleen Binte Norazmi whose names remains in the all-time record books with this success.
Penang’s Nurhanie Binte Hasli became the second female winner in the Malaysian National Golden Gloves Tournament following her quick RSC success over Terengganu’s Wan Nur Fatimah Mohamed Azhan at the flyweight (51kg). In another Olympic category at the lightweight (60kg) Elia Zonia Augustine of Sarawak captured the gold medal after beating Mardiana Lim in the final by unanimous decision.
Muhammad Fuad Bin Mohamed Redzuan is Malaysia’s most experienced boxer who is member of the national team since 2009. He attended in several editions of the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, ASBC Confederation Asian Boxing Championships and many other big events excluding the Olympic Games. The 28-year-old top boxer was too strong for Muhammad Bunyamin Bubung Budam in the final of the light flyweight (49kg) remaining the No.1 in Malaysia.
The flyweight (52kg) is always strong in Malaysia and the winner in this division became Jemis Wong Lee Onn who defeated Kenny Daglish Pangkas in the final. Mohamed Zulkhailane Mohamed Noor a talented boxer but his success over ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Abdul Salam Kasim was a small surprise in the final of the bantamweight (56kg).
Arfiqanie Ahmad Bin Anshori was involved to the national elite team in 2015 at the age of 19 and moved ahead in the international rankings step by step. The top Malaysian lightweight (60kg) boxer dominated the first round against a dangerous opponent Eddy Kalai and the referee stopped the final in the second confirming his RSC victory.
Johor’s Ahmad Hafiezudin Roslan is not a well-known name in the international level but he won the final of the light welterweight (64kg) by RSC over Kedah’s Adnan Jemain. Another RSC success was delivered by Iswaran Murali who is a veteran boxer but returned to the world of boxing after a break and dominated all of his fights at the welterweight (69kg) in Terengganu including his final over Mohamed Azizie Abd Wahab.
Mohamed Aswan Che Azmi defeated Hashmil Hashrin in the final of the middleweight (75kg) before Malaysia’s strong international boxer Khir Akyazlan Bin Azmi made his superb return to the sport claiming the gold at the light heavyweight (81kg). The last gold medal of the whole event was achieved by Tengku Shahrizal at the heavyweight (91kg) after beating Amerul Hafez Samshir in the final.
