The Best Asian Junior Boxer Arundhati Choudhary won the title in the Indian Women’s Youth National Championships

The Indian Women’s Youth National Championships was held also in the city of Rudrapur as the men’s part of the competition. First year’s youth boxers but experienced internationally as Poonam, Vinka, the Best Asian Women’s Junior Boxer in 2018 Arundhati Choudhary, Sanamacha Chanu Thokchom and Komal all dominated their weight classes.
Their previous female youth generations in India were impressive and achieved gold medals in the recent two editions of the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships. Following that golden era newcomers shined in the event and mainly those boxers who are first year’s talents in the youth age group.
Altogether 180 strong female boxers attended in the Indian Women’s Youth National Championships in ten weight classes. Boxers who were born in 2001 or in 2002 were able to compete for the medals in Rudrapur. Haryana achieved five gold medals and topped the team rankings ahead of runner-up Rajasthan, Punjab and Manipur.
The light flyweight (48kg) was the most crowded category in the Indian Women’s Youth National Championships with the participation of 27 boxers. Haryana’s Amisha Kumari Bharti eliminated U17 National Games winner Ekta Saroj and Amisha Kumari during her road to the finals and she was too quick also for Muskan in the title bout.
Impressive 24 boxers fought for the medals at the flyweight (51kg) in the Indian Women’s Youth National Championships. Meenakshi eliminated Manipur’s Nations Women’s Junior Cup winner Babyrojisana Chanu in the semi-finals and she had another tough fight against Sandeep Kaur in the final. Meenakshi has done another surprise in the final winning that contest by split decision.
Nations Women’s Junior Cup winner and U17 National Games winner Poonam had to beat five opponents to be crowned in Rudrapur but she managed to win all of these contests at the bantamweight (54kg). The 16-year-old talent was too strong for Suntia Roka and Rajasthan’s Arshi Khanan in the final stages of the national event.
Haryana’s Jaismine controlled all of her four contests at the featherweight (57kg) of the Indian Women’s Youth National Championships including her final against Priya Kushwaha. Rajasthan’s Nikita Bansal eliminated Punjab’s Prabhnoor Kaur in the semi-final and continued her winning path against Haryana’s younger Yashi Sharma at the lightweight (60kg) where 21 boxers attended for the medals.
Haryana’s U17 National Games silver medallist and Junior National Champion Vinka had to beat also four boxers to get the title of the light welterweight (64kg) but she was in top form in Rudrapur and defeated another favourite Menaka Devi as well for the gold. Vinka proved her skills are enough to get medals also in the international stage in spite of the fact she is only 16 now.
Rajasthan’s Nations Women’s Junior Cup winner Arundhati Choudhary was the ASBC Best Asian Women’s Junior Boxer in 2018 who received her trophy in Bangkok. A classical KO success is very rare in women’s boxing but Arundhati Choudhary won her quarter-final in that way which increased her confidence against for the later actions against Alisha and Neha Kasnyal. Choudhary won these welterweight (69kg) contests using her excellent technical skills and captured her next national title.
Manipur’s lone gold medal was achieved by Sanamacha Chanu Thokchom who won by RSC against three opponents before getting the title by unanimous decision against Haryana’s Raj Sahiba at the middleweight (75kg). Punjab’s sensation Nations Women’s Junior Cup winner Komal had to do her very best to beat Vidhi Giri in the final of the light heavyweight (81kg). Rajasthan’s third gold medal was achieved by Junior National Champion Lipakshi who defeated Komalpreet Kaur at the heavyweight (+81kg).
