The 22-year-old boxer was quicker than Nygmetolla Moldashev and he controlled all of the three rounds in that quarter-final bout. Zheksen will be boxing as next with Talgat Syrymbetov, a World Championships competitor in a final-level contest.

Dulat Bekbauov, the World silver medallist at the welterweight (67kg), is the main gold medal contender in this category in Astana. The 28-year-old boxer smashed Zhandyr Sultangaliyev in the quarter-finals and he will now meet a super talented young rival, the Youth World Champion Yelnur Suyunbay in the semi-final.

Nurkanat Raiys was quarter-finalist at the middleweight (75kg) in the World Boxing Championships and the 23-year-old boxer is a guaranteed medallist in the National Spartakyad following his success over Maksat Otegenov of Abay.
