The 22nd Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament will feature in Kostanay, Kazakhstan on July 12-17

The 22nd edition of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament will feature in Kostanay, Kazakhstan on July 12-17 this year and could be a preparation event for the 2022 IBA Youth World Boxing Championships. Boxing is a traditional sport in Kazakhstan and the level of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament is always high. The local organizers are waiting for the new young stars to attend in the traditional international competition.

The Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament is a strong men’s youth international competition, which has named by Ural and Korgan Aitenov. The city of Kostanay is located in the Northern part of Kazakhstan and has been hosting the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament in the recent more than two decades. The head of the local organizers, Mrs. Svetlana Mahleyt will arrange all of the tournament issues and details. 

Boxers who were born in 2004 and in 2005 are eligible to attend in the 22nd Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament. The men’s youth event will be held in thirteen different weight categories: pinweight (46kg), minimumweight (48kg), flyweight (51kg), bantamweight (54kg), featherweight (57kg), lightweight (60kg), light welterweight (63.5kg), welterweight (67kg), light middleweight (71kg), middleweight (75kg), light heavyweight (80kg), cruiserweight (86kg) and heavyweight (92kg). 

The date of the arrival to the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament is July 12 while the departure is July 17. The teams are responsible for purchasing their tickets to Kazakhstan and if any of the delegations arrives earlier or departure later than these dates, must pay for their accommodations. During the competition period, the Ural and Korgan Aitenov Boxing Club for all of the delegations will sponsor the meals, accommodation and the local transportation.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2019 edition of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament was an important preparation event before the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships, which took place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on November 2019. Altogether 105 male boxers attended for the medals and prizes in the 20th Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament. Besides to the eight Kazakh titles, Tajikistan’s Ramoil Kurbonov and Italy’s Vincenzo Fiaschetti won the gold medals in 2019.

The last 21st edition of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament introduced the new weight categories and the thirteen winners celebrated their successes and titles. Twelve of the champions are from Kazakhstan and one boxer from Uzbekistan won the title of the 21st Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament on July 2021.

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Russia and China sent boxers to the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament in 2021. The five-days long international youth event showed world-class level of boxing between these top powers.

Kazakhstan’s strong future hope Sanzhar Tashkenbay won the title of the light flyweight (49kg) at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Kielce, Poland this April but the 18-year-old rising star lost his semi-final to his teammate, Ramazan Nurlybayev by RSC in Kostanay, which was the biggest surprise of the 2021 edition.
