Thailand’s Atichai Phoemsap eliminated his main Kazakh rival in the quarter-finals of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships

The qualification event in our continent the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships continued with the men’s quarter-finals in Bangkok. Thailand’s Atichai Phoemsap proved brilliant performance in the fourth competition day and eliminated his top Kazakh rival Rakhat Seitzhan today.
Altogether 69 women and 139 men boxers from record number of 30 countries are taking part for the medals in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. The following countries have got at least one medal in the men’s part of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships:
– Kazakhstan: 8 men medals
– Thailand, Uzbekistan: 7 men medals
– India, Iran: 3 men medals
. China, Japan, Philippines: 2 men medals
– Jordan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan: 1 men medal
Thailand’s super talented Thitisan Panmod was bronze medallist in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and he is among the favourites of the men’s light flyweight (49kg). The 17-year-old Thai talent eliminated Indonesia’s Sergio Dura Nikhy Alfianto and Afghanistan’s Youth National Champion Ziaullah Hafizi during his road to the quarter-finals. His next opponent was Uzbekistan’s Sodirbek Kamolmirzayev which contest was an early final between the two favourites. The Uzbek boxer launched right-handed hooks in the first round but Panmod had better jabs in the second which came with perfect timing. The Thai boxer was confident in the third round and eliminated one of his biggest rivals in Bangkok.
Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Biybars Zheksen is one of the best boxers at the bantamweight (56kg) not only in our continent but in the whole world as well. The 17-year-old Kazakh talent eliminated Tajikistan’s best youth boxer Dzhamshedzhon Gafurov and dominated the first round against Iran’s Daniyal Shakhbakhsh. Zheksen delivered much better performance than in the first preliminary round and felt the tempo from the first seconds against his older Iranian rival.
Thailand’s Noppharat Thakhui claimed bronze medal in the Puerto Princesa 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships. Thakhui, who will be turning to 17 only later this year, eliminated Bhutan’s Dechen Namgay and Turkmenistan’s Youth National Champion Atajan Hudayberdiyev in the previous round. The Korat-based bantamweight (56kg) boxer had a few difficulties in the first round against DPR Korea’s Hong Il Gwan but he returned to the fight in the second with superb punches. Thakhui moved ahead successfully and his enthusiasm delivered for him a place in the last four.
Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Abdumalik Khalokov moved up to the bantamweight (56kg) in the recent months but he arrived to Bangkok in top shape. The 18-year-old Uzbek boxer is on the top level in the world therefore India’s Akash Kumar does not have any realistic chance to beat Khalokov today. The Uzbek star had amazing footwork and tricky movements therefore he won the bout by unanimous decision.
Japan’s defending ASBC Asian Junior Champion Sora Tanaka had a RSC success against China’s Liu Yuhao when he found his best rhythm in third round. The Japanese light welterweight (64kg) talent, who was the Best Boxer in the Puerto Princesa 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships, did stronger performance in the quarter-final against Chinese Taipei’s Hung Yu Sheng. Tanaka moved ahead with amazing confidence and his lethal punches shocked Hung therefore the referee stopped their unequal contest quickly.
Turkmenistan’s two-time Youth National Champion Saparmyrat Odayev attended in the last Agalarov Youth Memorial Tournament in Azerbaijan and his international experienced paid off in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. Tajikistan’s two-time Youth National Champion took over the control still in the first round and following his woman teammate Idimokh Kholova he advanced to the last four and he is now a guaranteed medallist in Bangkok.
Thailand’s ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships bronze medallist Weerapon Jongjoho moved up two weight classes in the recent months and he is fighting at the middleweight (75kg) now. His Iranian opponent Akbar Mardomi Mulan used the same quick style as their best elite boxer Sajad Kazemzadeh and launched amazing punches in the first round. Jongjoho could use his height advantage better in the second and third rounds and turned back their fight advancing to the semi-finals of the event.
Jordan’s Mohammad Al-Gharaghir prepared to the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Hungary and eliminated already Turkmenistan’s Youth National Champion Dayanch Orazmuhamedov in Bangkok. The 17-year-old Jordan flyweight (52kg) boxer met in the last eight with Afghanistan’s Sultan Mohammad Naeemi and he tried to overcome his rivals in the attacks. The Afghan boxer was did his very best in the second but Al-Gharaghir did enough to win their close contest after his strong last round.
Uzbekistan’s defending ASBC Asian Youth Champion Samandar Kholmurodov moved up to the flyweight (52kg) since his last appearance in the continental level but he is motivated to get a quota for the Youth Olympic Games. The 18-year-old Uzbek’s left hand was amazing in his quarter-final against Philippines’ Milenino Anduyan who competed also in the last edition. Kholmurodov used his speed to catch his Filipino opponent who developed well in the recent one year but the Uzbek boxer was able to win their contest.
Thailand’s Boxam Youth Tournament winner Atichai Phoemsap eliminated Afghanistan’s Russian-based Saiel Amirmohamad in a tactical bout. The Thai lightweight (60kg) boxer delivered better performance in the first round against Kazakhstan’s Rakhat Seitzhan and used his world class footwork. The Kazakh southpaw raised his tempo in the second round but Phoemsap’s long distance tactic was effective in their contest. The final verdict was split decision to Thailand’s youth No.1 who eliminated his main rival in Bangkok.
Kyrgyzstan’s Umar Kubanychbek Uulu claimed silver medal in the Puerto Princesa 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships and used his longer reach in the to beat Uzbekistan’s Ramazon Ziyatov in the previous preliminary round. The 17-year-old Kyrgyz lightweight (60kg) had difficulties in the first round against Mongolia’s Tulga Oyunbaatar and he was not able to repeat his strong performance in the opening minutes. The Mongolian boxer caught the Kyrgyz youngster with tough punches and Oyunbaatar’s skills were enough to beat his tough rival in Bangkok.
Thailand’s ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Peerapat Yeasungnoen launched successful uppercuts in the first round of his quarter-final against Japan’s two-time High School National Champion Sho Patrick Usami. The 18-year-old Thai welterweight (69kg) boxer and his Japanese opponent have done a spectacular contest in the Huamark Indoor Stadium. Usami, who has got also Canadian roots, wanted also to fight and he landed good punches during the whole contest. Yeasungnoen’s hand was raised after the final gong and he advanced to semi-finals as seventh men from his country.
Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Sagyndyk Togambay defeated United Arab Emirates’ Nawaf Al-Riyami in Puerto Princesa last August winning that contest by RSC in the first round. The Kazakh light heavyweight (81kg) boxer had to meet with his Arabic rival once again and needed also less than one round to win the bout. Togambay launched a lethal punch in the end of the first round which finished their unequal contest.
Uzbekistan’s AIBA Junior World Champion and ASBC Asian Junior Champion Timur Merzhanov regained his place in the national team after two poor years therefore he was motivated against India’s Ronak in the quarter-final of the light heavyweight (81kg). The Uzbek boxer launched effective punches in the first round and he did amazing job against such a strong opponent. The final verdict was unanimous decision to Merzhanov who proved his technique is world class.
Iran’s Ali Sepehr competed in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Puerto Princesa and he was quickly involved to the youth national team. The Iranian super heavyweight (+91kg) boxer launched powerful punches in the opening minute against Afghanistan’s new national team member Noman Mohammadi. The 17-year-old Iranian continued his strong performance and the referee stopped their contest still in the first round confirming Sepehr’s RSC success.
