Tamang, Teli show brilliance in Nepal National Championship

Rising stars Susma Tamang and Anjani Teli put up telling performances to conquer their respective divisions in the Nepal Bir Ganeshman Singh National Boxing Championship 2023 held recently in the capital city of Kathmandu.

ASBC Asian U22 Championships 2023 silver medallist Tamang stayed sharp despite moving up to light flyweight (50kg), coming up with a 5-0 romp over fellow national team member Asmita Duwal in the final.

Nepal’s first-ever Women’s Elite World Boxing Championships quarterfinalist Anjani Teli also made a switch to bantamweight (54kg) where she subdued Sanju Maya Thing, 4-1, for the gold medal.

Meanwhile, national team veteran Sangita Sunar flaunted her experience as she stopped Hema Rai in the opening round of their lightweight (60kg) final bout. Binita Thapa Magar (66kg) and the veteran, former Asian Games competitor Saraswati Rana Magar (75kg) were the further female winners in Kathmandu.

Men’s World Boxing Championships competitor Rabin Thapa posted a 4-0 victory over Aash Tamang in the flyweight (51kg) category.

Another seasoned national squad standout in Bhupendra Thapa trounced Sonam Sarki via unanimous decision to rule the light welterweight (63.5kg) division.

Bharat Chand (71kg), Hemraj Rawal (80kg) and Rabin Nepal (92kg) were the further male boxers who succeeded at the Bir Ghaneshman Singh National Championships.

Nepal is active in the boxing map, the Bir Ghaneshman Singh Boxing Championships was their third national event this year and the Nepali youth team attended in a training camp in India.
