Susma Tamang banners Nepal in Asian U22 Championships

Youth World Championships veteran Susma Tamang headlines the six-man Nepal national team for the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships 2023 on January 16-27 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Tamang, who was the first Nepalese woman to reach the quarterfinals of the youth world tourney back in 2021 in Kielce, Poland, will look to deliver the country’s first medal in the competition when she slugs it out in the minimumweight (48kg) division.

Another Nepali female talent, the 22-year-old Hema Rai claimed silver medals in the recent elite national events and she will be also a strong hope for a medal in Bangkok. The third girl in the team, Trisha Jabegu Limbu is a teenage hope who will be turning to 19 during the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships.

Lal Prasad Upreti (fly-51kg), Indra Bahadur Sunar (feather-57kg) and Bijay Bata (cruiser-86kg) compose the men’s side of the Nepalese squad.

Deepak Maharjan, the last Asian Games medalist of Nepal, will steer the national team together with Narayan Shrestha and Sandeep Shrestha.

Thailand’s capital is ready to the start of the upcoming ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships and the event will be held in the fantastic Huamark Indoor Stadium which saw the actions of the boxers during the 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships as well. Boxers who were born in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 are eligible to participate in the second edition of the championships.
