Sumaiya Kosimova is back on track with a gold medal at the Tajikistan Nationals

All of the 12 women’s finals at the Tajikistan Elite National Championships featured in Dushanbe during the fifth session of the competition.

Altogether 175 boxers competed in the Tajikistan Elite National Championships including record number of 57 girls in Dushanbe. The National Championships was their next selection competition for the upcoming 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will be held in Busto Arsizio, Italy from February 29.

Two of the Tajiks, such as Mizhgona Samadova and Davlat Boltayev have already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games through the Asian Games. Samadova finally decided not to compete in the National Championships as she uses different preparation schedule.

The ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships silver medallist Sumaiya Kosimova has eight years of international experience despite of her age of 23. The Dushanbe-based girl had injuries in the previous months but she recovered fully and stopped Khatlon region’s Shukrona Shoaliyeva in her quick final bout.

Dushanbe’s experienced national team member, Rukhafzo Khaknazarova competed at the Asian Games in Hangzhou this year and she earned several medals in various international competitions. The 24-year-old boxer won her light flyweight (50kg) final over Fayzimad Surayyoi by RSC in the same way as Sumaiya Kosimova in the first title contest.

Khatlon region’s Fariza Yokubova delivered one of the top sensations of the women’s finals when she defeated Dushanbe’s national team member Nigora Olimova in the quarter-finals of the bantamweight (54kg). She continued her winning path until the finals and for the title, she was also too strong for Maftuna Khudoykulova.

In the absence of the Paris Olympian and ASBC Asian Championships bronze medallist Mizhgona Samadova, another boxer from Dushanbe, Dildoda Asakolova won the women’s featherweight (57kg). Experienced international boxers such as Nilufar Boboyorova and Bibinashastamo Kholova both missed the national event therefore Dilnoza Nurimova claimed the title at the lightweight (60kg).

Khatlon region’s Malika Nazimova is well-known from international competitions and she had the stronger shots than Dushanbe’s Shirin Nabiyeva to decide the final of the welterweight (66kg). Dilrabo Kholmurodova (75kg), the veteran Gularus Shoyeva (81kg) and Farzona Karimova (+81kg) won the heaviest categories in the Nationals.
