Sri Lanka’s veteran Kodituwakku and Chinese Taipei’s youngster Chen Nien Chin shined in the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup on Day2

The second edition of the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup continued in the Mongolian capital city in Ulaanbaatar with its second competition day. President of the Asian Boxing Confederation and AIBA Vice-President Mr. Serik Konakbayev is visiting the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup in Mongolia. Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien Chin and Sri Lanka’s veteran Anusha Kodituwakku shined in the second competition day of the event.
The Ulaanbaatar Box Cup is a strong preparation event for the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games and another selection tournament for the Mongolian boxers and other participating nation’s athletes. Among the top Asian boxing nations Kazakhstan, South Korea, DPR Korea, Thailand, China, host Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan and Iran are taking part in the new edition of the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup.
DPR Korea’s Kim Kum Sun claimed silver medal in the Mangyongbae Prizes Tournament which is one of their biggest national events. The North Korean light flyweight (48kg) boxer received the right to box for her country in the international stage at the very first time and she impressed in the second competition day. Kim landed more punches than Mongolia’s Jamchiv Nyamsuren and her stamina was also good enough to win their contest in Ulaanbaatar.
Mongolia’s Bolortuul Tumurkhuyag won the light flyweight (48kg) at the 2012 ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships but since then she moved up to the featherweight (57kg). The experienced boxer was quicker than Thailand’s Nilawan Techaseup in the first round and took the lead in the scorecards. Tumurkhuyag had a few difficulties in the final round but she was able to keep her advantage in the front of the home crowd.
India’s Sonia Lather Singh claimed silver medals in the last editions of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and in the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships. The “Silver Girl” overcame Mongolia’s Myagmar Gundegmaa in the attacks and controlled the opening minutes. Lather was better than her opponent and won the bout by unanimous decision in Ulaanbaatar.
India’s Lovlina Borgohain is one of the youngest team member of their women squad and following her participation in the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships and in the Commonwealth Games, she was confident against Thailand’s Suchada Panich at the welterweight (69kg). The 21-year-old Indian won all of the rounds against her Southeast Asian rival and advanced to the next stage in Ulaanbaatar.
Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien Chin claimed bronze medal in the Astana 2016 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships as a teenager which made her stronger in mind. The Rio 2016 Olympian boxer competes at the welterweight (69kg) in Ulaanbaatar and the strong talent did not give any chance to Mongolia’s Munkhbat Myagmarjargal on Day2. Chen dominated their fight with her strict jabs and advanced to the next round in the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup.
India’s Sarjubala Shamjetsabam Devi was silver medallist in the Jeju 2014 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and after a few poor years she moved up to the flyweight (51kg). The Indian boxer eliminated China’s Yu Yahong in the first preliminary day but she was unable to repeat that strong performance against Mongolia’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games bronze medallist Nandintsetseg Myagmardulam.
Sri Lanka’s Anusha Kodituwakku is a veteran boxer who finally claimed bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast this April which was her career highlight. The Sri Lankan veteran is boxing in the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup without any stress and she delivered another remarkable performance this time against South Korea’s Kim Min Jeong at the flyweight (51kg) and advanced to the next round.
Iran’s Omid Ahmadisafa won the Taimanov & Utemisov Memorial Tournament in Atyrau, Kazakhstan two months ago and arrived to the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup to show his skills and prepare well to the Asian Games. The 26-year-old Iranian light flyweight (49kg) boxer eliminated a dangerous opponent Mongolia’s Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu on Day1 and continued his winning path against China’s Zheng Yuanjie which means the Iranian advanced to the semi-finals in Ulaanbaatar.
Mongolia’s strong light welterweight (64kg) duo also continued their winning series in the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup and advanced to the semi-finals. London 2012 Olympic Games Uranchimeg Munkh-Erdene is a 36-year-old veteran but he was able to beat Thailand’s Chaiya Ruamtham. In the same light welterweight (64kg) Mongolia’s Rio 2016 Olympian Baatarsukh Chinzorig dominated his fight against South Korea’s Park Won Bin.
