Shahbakhsh, fellow stars triumph in Iranian Elite national competition

Top boxer Danial Shahbakhsh and fellow amateur stars emerged victorious in the Iranian Elite National Championships held recently in the city of Zahedan to secure their spot in the national team roster for the ASBC Asian Elite Championships next year.

The 22-year-old Shahbakhsh, who made history as the first Iranian to win a medal in the AIBA World Championships after taking a bronze last year in Belgrade, came through with a dominant 5-0 victory over Mohammad Kamali in the lightweight (60kg) title bout.

Shahbakhsh’s fellow Tokyo Olympics rep Seyed Shahin Mousavi defended his middleweight (75kg) belt with a 5-0 win against Sina Fazlollahi while Strandja Memorial Tournament silver winner Sajjad Mohammadpour pipped Pouria Abdolmaleki, 4-1, in featherweight (57kg).

ASBC Asian Youth 2013 silver medalist Siavash Omidi overwhelmed Seyed Hossein Mirahmadi, 5-0, in light heavyweight (80kg) even as Iran’s best super heavyweight (+92kg) Iman Ramezanpour crushed Mohammad Azizi, 5-0, to keep his status.
