Seven World medallists strengthen the Kazakh team in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Amman

Kazakhstan will be attending with maximum number of 13 boxers in the upcoming Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Amman, Jordan. Among the 13 boxers seven already claimed medals in the AIBA World Boxing Championships and some of their stars as Abilkhan Amankul and Valentina Khalzova returned to the team.

Kazakhstan claimed six medals in the Yekaterinburg 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships and their squad delivered also two titles in the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Confederation Men’s Elite Boxing Championships. The two gold medallists from Bangkok as Tursynbai Kulakhmet (75kg) and Bek Nurmaganbet (81kg) replaced by Kazakh star boxers in these categories in Amman.

Mr. Galymbek Kenzhebayev’s male team is a combination of young hopes and veterans but all of them are already done big things in the top international events. The women team of the Central Asian boxing power contains many surprises after the Ulan-Ude 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

Angelina Lukas defeated two-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Nazym Kyzaibay and will be boxing for Kazakhstan at the flyweight (51kg). Dametken Kelimbet (57kg) and ASBC Asian Youth Champion Nadezhda Ryabets (75kg) will be making also their debuts in a top elite event. Astana 2016 AIBA Women’s World Champion Valentina Khalzova (69kg) returned to the team after two years of break while Rimma Volosenko (60kg) is in good form just before the start with two international tournament titles on her bag.

Saken Bibossynov joined to the national team in 2019 and quickly claimed bronze medal at the flyweight (52kg) in the Yekaterinburg AIBA World Boxing Championships. Pavlodar-based Serik Temirzhanov is a new addition in the top national team who defeated all of his main rivals at home including Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Champion Kayrat Yeraliyev and could be a secret favourite of the bantamweight (57kg) in Amman.

Zakir Safiullin is a veteran boxer who claimed two silver medals in the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships and he worked well to keep his place at the lightweight (63kg). Two-time AIBA World Championships bronze medallist Ablaikhan Zhussupov will be representing Kazakhstan at the welterweight (69kg) which is their best category based on their Olympic records of four-in-a-row gold medals.

Abilkhan Amankul amazed in the World Series of Boxing in 2016 and claimed silver medal at the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships. The 23-year-old boxer returned after his injury and defeated his top national rival Tursynbai Kulakhmet in a local event. Bekzad Nurdauletov not only attended in his first AIBA World Boxing Championships last year but he won the gold medal in Yekaterinburg and could be also the main favourite at the light heavyweight (81kg) in Amman.

Vasiliy Levit is one of the most experienced boxers in the whole Asian continent who joined to the international events in 2004. Since then he claimed plenty of medals and titles and he is the best Asian heavyweight (91kg) boxer. Kazakhstan’s super heavyweight (+91kg) boxer Kamshybek Kunkabayev is two-time silver medallist in the AIBA World Boxing Championships who will be meeting with his main rival Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov once again in Amman.
