Record number of seven boxers represent Bhutan in the upcoming Asian Games

Bhutan is a developing boxing nation in our continent but their boxing life turned into a new era five years ago and since the South Asian country is a continuous member of the big competitions. Tashi Wangdi, Dorji Nima and their woman boxer Tandin Lhamo have got enough international experiences to make a few surprises in the upcoming Asian Games.
Bhutan will be sending record number of 7 boxers to the Asian Games including one woman talent to Jakarta. Bhutan’s boxing team attended in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in Bangkok as last preparation where their boxers showed development and excellent fighting spirit. Altogether 90 male and 4 elite female boxers attended in the last edition of the Bhutan National Boxing Championships in Phuntsholing which means their background is widened.
Their women boxing team was formed in 2016 and one of their new talents Tandin Lhamo received the right to represent the country in Jakarta. The 22-year-old flyweight (51kg) boxer attended in the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup in Mongolia in June 2017 which was her first international event but the Asian Games will be her big debut.
Southpaw Tashi Wangdi is one of the most experienced men’s boxers in Bhutan who began his career in 2008 and has been attending international events since 2012. The 22-year-old light flyweight (49kg) boxer is quick in the ring and could be making a few sensations in the upcoming Asian Games.
Tenzin Drugyel attended in the Pavlodar 2016 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and after two years he can make his debut among the elite athletes in Jakarta. The 20-year-old boxer also began his boxing career in 2008 as his teammate Tashi Wangdi which means he has got also 10 years of experiences in the sport.
Bhutan’s highest ranked man boxer is Dorji Nima who has done his debut in the national team at the Bangkok 2015 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. The 23-year-old bantamweight (56kg) boxer was quarter-finalist in the Tashkent 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and also in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament last month.
Bhutan’s lightweight (60kg) No.1 Tshering Samdrup attended in the Sofia 2014 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and joined to their elite team this year. ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships competitor Dorji Wangdi will be their light welterweight (64kg) boxer in Jakarta and Southeast Asian Games quarter-finalist Sangay Wangdi was also added to the travelling team.
