Rasdenal Haikal and Arfiqanie made successful comebacks at the Malaysian National Golden Gloves

The Malaysian National Golden Gloves in Kampung Raja where seven teams shared the gold medals in the elite level. Malaysia’s heroes as Muhammad Abdul Qaiyum Bin Ariffin and Mohamed Aswan Bin Che Azmi dominated their weight classes but Muhammad Rasdenal Haikal and Arfiqanie Bin Ahmad Anshori returned to the national events with gold medals.

The Malaysian Boxing Federation’s first event in 2023, their National Cup took place for their elite male boxers in Negeri Sembilan earlier this year. Altogether 110 elite Malaysian boxers competed at the National Golden Gloves from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the heavyweight (92kg).

The Malaysians competed at the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Bangkok this January and their boxers had to participate in the next events within very short period of time. Their program was busy in 2022 with participations in the ASBC Boxing Championships, Southeast Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.

The first winner was Muhammad Nazirul Azwan Bin Yusof at the minimumweight (48kg) which is always strong in Malaysia. The country has strong traditions in this category such as former stars, Anak Biki Sapok and Muhammed Redzuan but might be Nazirul could be their new ace.

Muhammad Abdul Qaiyum Bin Ariffin is Malaysia’s first ever ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships medallist who had a very busy schedule in the recent two years. The 22-year-old boxer has stopped and knocked out most of his rivals at the flyweight (51kg) including Mohammed Aidil Ashraf Bin Abdul Razak.

Muhammad Rasdenal Haikal Bin Mohamed Fadli was Malaysia’s best future hope in 2018 and in 2019 and after a few difficulties, he returned to the world of boxing. Following his RSC and KO victories, he had a competitive opponent in the final, Mohamed Irwan Zulkiflie Bin Mohamed Yusof but the 22-year-old Rasdenal Haikal controlled their bout.

An Army boxer, Mohammed Zulkhailane Bin Mohamed Noor became the winner at the lightweight (60kg) where record number of 17 athletes competed for the medals. Arfiqanie Bin Ahmad Anshori competed for Malaysia in several Southeast Asian Games and other international competitions. He returned to the national events at the welterweight (67kg) but he was too strong for his opponent in Kampung Raja.

Mohamed Aswan Bin Che Azmi is in different level at the light middleweight (71kg), he dominated the category in the National Golden Gloves. Hashmil Bin Hashrin was the star at the light heavyweight (80kg) while Indran Ramakrishnan used his 10 years of experiences to win the cruiserweight (86kg).

 80kg: Hashmil Bin Hashrin

 86kg: Indran Ramakrishnan

 92kg: Mohamed Hanafi Bin Mohamed Firdaus
