Qasim, Mahmudov and Anarbayev are the junior heroes of the day in Dubai

Nineteen junior quarter-final bouts were held in the fifth competition day of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Iraq’s Abbas Qasim, Uzbekistan’s Hojiakbar Mahmudov and Kazakhstan’s Bakhtiyar Anarbayev became the heroes of the day in Dubai. All of the winners of today advanced to the final of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships.

The number of the junior boxers is 152 while 141 youth athletes are competing in the Dubai event. Altogether 293 boxers including 84 girls are attending in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. The Technical Delegate of the competition is Mrs. Marina Ni of Kazakhstan who supports the success of the event.

Fifteen nations sent their boxers to the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Dubai: Bahrain, India, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Mongolia, Nepal, Palestine, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan. The competition is streamed in the ASBC YouTube channel and the fans can follow all of the sessions in the upcoming nearly two weeks.

The company of Green Hill is the official equipment provider as in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships which is a money prize event, all of the medallists can earn cash prizes. Altogether record number of 51 champions will be crowned in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships, 25 girls and 26 boys.

Iraq’s Abbas Qasim is the first junior finalist of the championship

Tajikistan’s Anushervon Fazylov and Iraq’s Abbas Qasim both won tough contests in the previous competition days and met for the final place at the boys’ junior pinweight (46kg). The 15-year-old Tajik talent caught his Iraqi opponent with a few tough left-handed shots in the first round of their battle while Qasim also has done his very best in the opening two minutes. Both boxers have got southpaw stance and among them the taller Iraqi was slightly better in the exchanges. The smaller Tajik gave in everything in the third round to turn back the contest but Qasim had still enough physical condition and freshness to win their narrow semi-final.

Hojiakbar Mahmudov is Uzbekistan’s first junior finalist

Uzbekistan Boxing Federation divided their junior national squads into two parts, one of them competes at the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and their next line-ups will attend in the CIS Junior Games in Russia soon. Their ASBC Asian Schoolboys Champion Hojiakbar Mahmudov impressed in the quarter-finals while his neighbouring opponent, Kazakhstan’s Ilya Kalinin had a closer contest in the previous round. The Uzbek southpaw started the first round with a nice left-handed jab and he showed excellent technical skills against a promising boxer. Mahmudov felt the tempo better, he was quicker than his Kazakh opponent and marched into the final of the flyweight (50kg).

Kazakhstan’s Adaibek Niyazbay won his semi-final easily on Day5

Kazakhstan’s next semi-finalist, Adaibek Niyazbay did not underestimate his semi-final opponent at the junior bantamweight (54kg), Nepal’s first ever medallist in the history of the ASBC Championships, Chhiring Wangdi Sherpa. Mangystau region’s pride dominated the first round, used his height advantage and excellent technical skills to catch the inexperienced Nepali boxer in the first round. The 16-year-old Kazakh stepped into the gas in the second round and he proved that he is too strong for his Nepali opponent. Chhiring Wangdi Sherpa’s gumshield came off several times in the contest and after the third warning, the referee had to disqualify the Nepali boxer.

Bakhtiyar Anarbayev is Kazakhstan’s third junior finalist

Another Kazakhstan vs. Tajikistan semi-final was held in the fifth competition day, and had the same situation in tactical level, the Kazakh was taller. Bakhtiyar Anarbayev not only used his longer reach against Shakhboz Dadojonov but he landed the stronger punches in the first round. The 16-year-old Kazakh, who claimed bronze medal at the Kuwait City 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships as Dadajonov, proved that he developed rapidly in the recent two years and controlled the semi-final. Anarbayev was better in all aspects of boxing today and eliminated his Tajik rival making the featherweight (57kg) final in Dubai.

Uzbekistan’s promising Javokhir Ummataliyev advanced to the final of the lightweight

Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Ummataliyev is one of the best junior boxers of his nation who developed quickly in the recent one and half year and arrived to Dubai as one of the favourites of the junior lightweight (60kg). The Uzbek talent overcame Kazakhstan’s Madiyar Taipakov in the attacks and used his technical skills to catch his neighbouring opponent. Ummataliyev is one of their strong favourites for the future who landed high number of combinations in the semi-final and as expected, he secured his place in the final.

Uzbekistan’s Fazliddin Erkinboyev and Mizrob Nekboyev advanced to the finals

Uzbekistan’s Fazliddin Erkinboyev fought out his place in the junior national team and moved ahead step by step in the rankings. The Uzbek welterweight (66kg) boxer faced with India’s Ankush in the semi-finals of the championship and gain the control immediately. Erkinboyev was too quick for his Indian opponent in the first round when Ankush caught only the air with his jabs. The Uzbek talent used his excellent technical skills to take the lead on the scorecards and he was able to keep continue until the final gong. His teammate, ASBC Asian Schoolboys Champion Mizrob Nekboyev was too smart for Kazakhstan’s Daulet Tulemissov and also advanced to the finals.

Kazakhstan’s Khamed and India’s Bharat are finalists in Dubai

United Arab Emirates’ Mohamed Qasim Al-Barout was born in a boxing family, his father was the country’s most successful boxer but his son is only 15 and inexperienced yet. Al-Barout was brave but he did not have experience to survive the first round against Kazakhstan’s Mokhamed Attia Khamed therefore his opponent advanced to the final of the light heavyweight (80kg). India’s Joon Bharat eliminated his Uzbek rival in a key quarter-final and after that success, he was highly motivated against Kyrgyzstan’s Emir-Khan Razhapov and joined to the final of the heavyweight (+80kg).

Muskan and Bakhtiyorova are the first female junior finalists

India’s pinweight (46kg) hope, Muskan was too experienced for Kazakhstan’s Yelyanur Turganova and became the first female junior finalist in the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships. In the second semi-final of the women’s part of the competition, Kazakhstan’s Anita Adisheva tried to keep the best fighting distance in the first round against Uzbekistan’s Junior National Champion Robiyakhon Bakhtiyorova. The smaller Uzbek moved ahead and never stopped attacking and following her quick attacks, the referee counted Adisheva. The Uzbek talent’s strength decided their semi-final contest which means Bakhtiyorova is the finalist of the light flyweight (48kg).

Nematova controlled her semi-final with excellent performance

Uzbekistan Boxing Federation arranged its Junior Women’s National Championships two months ago with the participation of more than 150 girls. Their flyweight (50kg) talent Shahina Nematova exceeded all of the previous expectations in her first international contest and controlled the first round against India’s Devika Satyjit. Nematova was able to turn up the heat in the second round and the referee counted the Indian boxer in that period. The Uzbek talent kept continue her strong performance in the same way until the final bell and wo their impressive semi-final.

Myrzakul and Tileubergenova are the next finalists

Kazakhstan’s first female finalist in the junior age group is Tomiris Myrzakul who has done excellent job against Uzbekistan’s Laziza Yusupova in the semi-final of the light bantamweight (52kg). Uzbekistan’s two-time Women’s Junior National Champion Guldana Tileubergenova arrived from the Karakalpakstan region to Dubai and she was named one of the favourites. The Uzbek talent was nervous in the first round against India’s Aarsoo but she calmed down in time to come back to the contest in time. Tileubergenova impressed in the third round and her great finish was enough to win this hard semi-final over a well-experienced opponent.
