Iraq made its fantastic debut in women’s boxing at the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships

Iraq started to form its women’s national team in the beginning of this year which is a strong commitment from their National Boxing Federation. Their President Mr. Ali Takleef and the Secretary General Mr. Ali Abdulzahra Jawad worked hard following the official approval of the Hijab to start women’s boxing in Iraq. Their junior talent at the lightweight (60kg), Maryam Mohammed has done a historical debut in women’s boxing at the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships.

The Iraqi talent was brave and she fought hard in the first round against a more experienced rival from Kazakhstan, Assem Tanatar. Maryam Mohammed received punches from the Kazakh boxer but she landed also effective jabs in all of the three rounds. The Iraqi girl was tired before the start of the third round but she had fantastic heart and despite of the fact that she began boxing only a few months ago, Maryam Mohammed could fight until the last gong. Assem Tanatar won the bout by unanimous decision but the young Iraqi had strong attempts, she fought until her last power today.
