President Mr. Hossein Souri developed Iran’s boxing in the recent two years and their 8-strong-team is ready to win medals in Amman

The President of Iran Boxing Federation Mr. Hossein Souri worked hard to develop the country’s boxing life in the recent two years and he attended all of the important ASBC events and meetings to strengthen the presence of Iran’s boxing. Their focus is on the upcoming Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event where Iran will be sending 8-strong team covering all men’s weight classes.

The main strategic plan of Mr. Hossein Souri to growth Iran’s boxing life and the popularity of the sport into the same level where wrestling is. The quantity of their boxers is significantly increased and the quality of their boxing life is also in developing stage. Mr. Hossein Souri had great efforts to launch women’s boxing in Iran following the new rules which approved to wear Hijab for the ladies’ boxers.

Iran competed in all of the important international competitions in the recent two years and claimed several medals on these top events. The Iranian boxers reached the Top8 in the Yekaterinburg 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships and at the very first time in an AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budapest one and half year ago.

The Iranian athletes achieved medals in all of the recent ASBC Asian Boxing Championships and their schoolboys and juniors also showed their potentials in 2019. The Iranian boxers shined mostly in Bangkok, Kuwait City and Fujairah last year and their target is to make it even better in 2020.

Boxing spread in the Armed Forces, in the students, high school students across Iran in the last two years well enough to build up better grassroots. Iran had Elite, U22, Youth, Junior and Schoolboys National Championships in their official program in the recent years. The regular TV stations broadcasted the national competitions which increased the popularity of boxing and the number of athletes in all regions of Iran.

The Iranian national team has been preparing to the upcoming Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event which will be held in Amman, Jordan on March 3-11. Iran will be sending 8-strong team to the event including London 2012 Olympic Games quarter-finalist Ehsan Rouzbahani (81kg) on the board who returned to the national team. ASBC Asian Boxing Championships bronze medallists as Sajjad Kazemzadeh (69kg) and Seyed Shahin Mousavi (75kg) also could be weapons of their team in Amman.
