Kazakhstan earned three gold medals in the 64th Bocskai Memorial Tournament in Hungary

The finals of the traditional 64th Bocskai Memorial Tournament were held in the city of Debrecen, Hungary where the Asian boxers proved strong performances. Kazakhstan earned three gold medals in the competition which is one of the biggest and oldest international tournaments in the European continent launched it in 1956. The Indian boxers also impressed with their tough performances and achieved four silver medals in Debrecen.

Kazakhstan’s Rimma Volosenko defeated Russia’s Ekaterina Dynnik on their re-match

Kazakhstan’s Rimma Volosenko eliminated Belarus’ Alla Starodub in the semi-finals of the women’s lightweight (60kg) winning that bout with large margin of differences. Volosenko defeated Russia’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Ekaterina Dynnik in the Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament in Karagandy last December. The two top boxers met each other once again in the final of the Bocskai Memorial Tournament and their fight delivered high number of exchanges. Volosenko was fresh and landed more punches than her Russian rival in the last round which meant she defeated Dynnik on their re-match in Debrecen.

The Asian battle at the men’s flyweight (52kg) was won by Kazakhstan’s super talented Makhmud Sabyrkhan

Kazakhstan’s two-time ASBC Asian Youth Champion Makhmud Sabyrkhan is their best boxer among the hopes who were born in 2001. He is one of the best elite flyweight (52kg) boxers in their country in spite of the fact that he is only 18. Sabyrkhan had to meet in the final in a classic Asian battle against India’s Yerevan 2012 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Lalitha Prasad who defeated top Russian and French boxers during his road to the finals. Sabyrkhan arrived to Debrecen as one of the main favourites looked confident against a world class rival. The Kazakh boxer switched his stance several times during the bout and his amazing finish delivered for his first elite title on his debut.

Kazakhstan’s Aibek Oralbay defeated his Indian rival at the men’s heavyweight (91kg)

Kazakhstan’s Aibek Oralbay claimed gold medals in the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games and also at the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships. The 19-year-old Kazakh heavyweight (91kg) boxer was the favourite in the final against India’s Gaurav Chauhan who is newcomer in the national team. The Indian claimed bronze in the last edition of their National Championships and in spite of the fact he is very inexperienced in the international stage, he had a brave attempt to beat Oralbay. The Kazakh teenager was quicker than his Indian opponent and he proved his strong developments in all aspects of the sport. Oralbay landed an amazing left-handed jab in the third round and won the title of the Bocskai Memorial Tournament.

The Indian girls earned two silver medals in Debrecen

India’s AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Jyoti Gulia eliminated Canada’s Rio 2016 Panamerican Games winner Mandy Bujold in the semi-final of the flyweight (51kg) but she was not able to repeat that performance in the final of the event against Russia’s Svetlana Soluianova and claimed silver medal in Debrecen. India’s Manisha Moun defeated tough opponents in the tournament but she lost to Russia’s AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Liudmilla Vorontsova in the final of the featherweight (57kg) and also became runner-up at the Bocskai Memorial Tournament.
