Petecio, Paalam headline Philippines in ASBC elite joust

Tokyo Olympics silver medalists Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam will banner the 12-strong Philippine national team in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 slated on October 30 to November 13 in Amman, Jordan.

The 30-year-old Petecio, a former world champion and two-time Asian medal winner, will gun for her first gold in the continental meet when she joins the women’s featherweight (57kg) division.

On the other hand, SEA Games 2019 gold and Asian Games 2018 bronze finisher Paalam will see action in the men’s bantamweight (54kg) class.

Joining Paalam and Petecio in spearheading the national squad are world bronze medalist and two-time SEA Games titlist Rogen Ladon (men’s fly-51kg), Tokyo Olympian Irish Magno (women’s fly-52kg) and SEAG 2019 champ James Palicte (men’s light welter 63.5kg).

Led by President Mr. Edgar Picson together with Secretary-General Mr. Marcus Manalo, the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) sent the PH bets to the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament, USA International Invitational and various training camps in gearing up for the Asian elite tilt.

The Philippine team will aim to eclipse its four-bronze performance in the previous edition held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates two years ago.
