Paalam, Marcial and Marvin could be Philippines’ best hopes in the AIBA World Boxing Championships

Philippines is one of the strongest Asian boxing nations with excellent traditions in the recent decades. Team Philippines will be attending with five experienced boxers in the AIBA World Boxing Championships which is scheduled to take place in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation on September 7-22.
Philippines sent their boxers to several preparation events in the recent months including the Strandja Memorial Tournament, the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament and the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament. Their coaches planned to meet with the best boxers of the world and the Filipinos competed on the top events in 2019.
The AIBA World Boxing Championships is their next step to the road to the Southeast Asian Games which will be held in Manila this December. The Southeast Asian Games, or shortly known as SEA Games, is one of the most important events for the Filipino squad therefore they selected their very bests to the AIBA World Boxing Championships.
Philippines claimed one bronze medal at the Doha 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships when Rogen Ladon achieved that podium place in the smallest weight class. The management of the Philippines Boxing Team is aiming for a new medal after four years of break in Yekaterinburg which will be one of the highlights of the year.
Carlo Paalam was bronze medallist in the 2016 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and will be returning to Russia once again. The 21-year-old Filipino also claimed bronze in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games and moved up to the flyweight (52kg) in the recent weeks to attend in Yekaterinburg.
Ian Clark Bautista claimed gold medal in the Subic Bay 2013 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and following six years of hard work he earned bronze in the elite level at the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. His teammate, 25-year-old James Palicte also won the title at the Subic Bay 2013 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and will be attending at the lightweight (63kg) in Yekaterinburg.
Philippines are famous of their technician boxers in the smallest categories but they have also high hopes at the middleweight (75kg) and at the light heavyweight (81kg). Former AIBA Junior World Champion Eumir Felix Marcial and John Nobel Marvin both claimed already silver medals in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships besides to their Southeast Asian Games titles.
