Nilawan Techasuep claimed gold medal for Thailand in the prestigious Boxam Tournament

The traditional Boxam Tournament finished with the finals on the fourth competition day which was held Castellon de la Plana, Spain today. Thailand’s ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships silver medallist Nilawan Techasuep finally claimed gold medal in the event while two further boxers achieved silver.
Thailand hosted the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok on April. Their management sent 10 boxers including three female athletes to the new edition of the Boxam Tournament. The Boxam Tournament is part of their European tour to raise the experiences of their hopes and their next step will be the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem in the Czech Republic next week.

Nilawan Techasuep dominated her final and claimed gold for Thailand
Thailand’s first finalist in the Boxam Tournament was Nilawan Techasuep who controlled all of her contests in the competition with large margin of differences. The ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships runner-up and Asian Games bronze medallist Techasuep eliminated Spain’s Maria del Carmen Madueno, France’s Barbara Havet and Hungary’s Szabina Szucs during her road to the finals. Techasuep used her long distance tactic well already in the first round against France’s experienced Mona Mestiaen and took the lead in each scorecard. The taller Techasuep used her longer hands well enough and landed high number of punches in the event winning the gold medal for Thailand.

Yuttapong Tongdee achieved silver medal in the Boxam Tournament
Thailand’s 2016 FISU University World Champion and Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament silver medallist Yuttapong Tongdee moved back to the bantamweight (56kg) which is the perfect option for his body. The 26-year-old Thai boxer eliminated Hungary’s EUBC European Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Nandor Csoka and Spain’s Antonio Barrul in the road to the finals. His final opponent was Spain’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games quarter-finalist Samuel Carmona who is a technician boxer and has got world class footwork. Tongdee gave in everything in their contest but finally Carmona’s hand was raised which meant Thailand’s pride claimed silver medal in Castellon de la Plana.

Wuttichai Masuk has done debut at the welterweight (69kg) and claimed silver medal in Castellon de la Plana
Thailand has got strong boxers at the light welterweight (64kg) and after spending nine years in this category their Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner and 2015 ASBC Asian Champion Wuttichai Masuk decided to move up to the welterweight (69kg). He claimed silver medal in the Cologne Boxing World Cup last month when he has done amazing performance still at the light welterweight (64kg). The 29-year-old AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Thai boxer eliminated Hungary’s AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Laszlo Kozak and England’s WSB boxer Conor Loftus during his road to the finals. Masuk suffered a surprise loss to France’s Wahid Hambli and achieved his next silver medal this year.
