Nihon University won the Team Final of the Japanese National University Boxing Championships

The Team Final of the Japanese National University Boxing Championships took place in the Mito Sakuranosaki High School in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture where Nihon University of East Japan defeated Ashiya University of West Japan by 8-3. The event was one of the highlight of Japan’s boxing life this year and among their top young talents Ryusei Matsumoto, Tomoya Tsuboi, Subaru Murata, Gonte Ri and Toshihiro Suzuki won their contests in Mito.
Taipei City Cup winner Ryusei Matsumoto is only a teenager but he is a well known boxer already in Japan who defeated Ryota Karimata in the opening bout of the Team Final of the Japanese National University Boxing Championships. His strong efforts in Mito City meant Nihon University took the lead after the first bout of the team event.
ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Tomoya Tsuboi is the defending National Champion in Japan at the light flyweight (49kg) but this time he attended one category higher in Mito. The 21-year-old strong talent dominated his contest against Ayato Hiromoto therefore Nihon University raised their advantage.
Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist Subaru Murata moved up two categories in the recent three years and now he is attending at the bantamweight (56kg) in Japan which is their strongest one in the elite level. The 21-year-old Murata launched lethal left-handed punches in the third round against Yuki Yamauchi and the referee confirmed his RSC success in Moto.
Kota Kaneko won all of his last 10 contests in the Kanto University Boxing League but this time he lost to a newcomer, Hiroto Matsuda of Ashiya University who had brave attacks in their bantamweight (56kg) bout. Following his success the Ashiya University won two further contests by the performance of Taison Uehara and Natsuki Sakaguchi.
Nihon University’s top boxers such as AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships competitor Ri Gonte, Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games silver medallist Toshihiro Suzuki and Japanese National Sports Festival winner Hisaki Takakura all won their consecutive contests in Mito City. Suzuki and Takakura are aiming for a place in the Japanese top team before the main goals in 2018.
