Namuun Monkhor, Buyandalai Bayarkhuu and Byambatsogt Tuguldur won tough categories at the Mongolian U22 National Selection Tournament

The Mongolian Boxing Federation arranged an U22 National Selection Tournament before the start of the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships which will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan between January 20 and 30. There were several surprises in the national event but such experienced boxers as Namuun Monkhor, Buyandalai Bayarkhuu and Byambatsogt Tuguldur won tough weight categories.

The Mongolians will be competing in the upcoming continental event with seven female athletes and eight male boxers in Tashkent in the end of the month. Among them twelve received the right to attend in the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships through the National Selection Tournament. Mungunsaran Balsan and Myagmarsuren Tsetsegdari will attend in the upcoming ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships without any qualifications due to their previous results.

The women boxers competed from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the lightweight (60kg) in the U22 National Selection Tournament. The first gold medal of the national event was won by Janargul Byeisyenbei in the smallest female weight category as expected. Altanbek Khulan impressed in the Kielce 2021 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and she continued her winning path in her first U22 event.

Enkhjargal Mungunchimeg defeated stars as Yesugen Oyuntsetseg and AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Erdenedalai Michidmaa at the bantamweight (54kg) causing two surprises in the U22 National Selection. Mongolia’s elite No.1, Namuun Monkhor moved down to the featherweight (57kg) and defeated ASBC Asian Junior Champion four-years-younger Tugsjargal Nomin-Erdene in the final.

Orkhontungalag Unubold was a surprise in the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and he was confident in the U22 National Selection Tournament. Khishigtsetseg Azbayar eliminated G. Battulga in the semi-finals of the flyweight (51kg) and continued his winning path against L. Davaadorj in the final.

Dorjnyambuu Ganbold caused the top sensation of the Mongolian U22 National Selection Tournament when he defeated AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Enkhzorigt Sukhbat in the semi-finals of the bantamweight (54kg). Chuluunbat Uugankhuu was also not able to stop Ganbold who took the title of the weight class.

Enkh-Amgalan Bayarsaikhan eliminated Bayarsaikhan Altantulga in the semi-finals of the featherweight (57kg) and he was waiting for his final with full of confidence against Gantumur Lundaa who also won a key contest in the last four. Lundaa exceeded all of the expectations and earned a surprise gold medal in this weight class.

ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist Buyandalai Bayarkhuu bowed out AIBA World Boxing Championships competitor Tulga Oyunbaatar in the last four of the lightweight (60kg). The 22-year-old boxer met in the final with Enkhtur Tegshjargal who claimed bronze at the 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and Buyandalai Bayarkhuu managed to win that category.

Byambatsogt Tuguldur developed rapidly in the recent two and half years and he was too strong for O. Amarsanaa in the final of the light welterweight (63.5kg). Jandos Askhar and Batbayar Gantulga both attended in the Ulaanbaatar 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and now they are members of the U22 national team.
