Ms. Shelly Selowati Soejono – “We are working hard to arrange a great Asian Games in Jakarta”

Ms. Shelly Selowati H. Soejono is not only the General Secretary of the Indonesian Boxing Federation but she is a well-known boxing official in the international stages. She was the Supervisor of the Guwahati 2017 AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships and also the Ho Chi Minh City 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships.
Indonesia hosted the Kapolri Cup earlier in July which was a great preparation for them before the Asian Games. The Indonesian Boxing Federation’s engine is working without any stoppage on the success of the upcoming Asian Games which will be held in Jakarta starting on August 18 until September 2. We asked Ms. Shelly Selowati H. Soejono about the preparation of the Indonesian team and the arrangements of the Asian Games.
“The Kapolri Cup was launched last year which was a national event but we decided to increase the importance of the event. The new edition of the Kapolri Cup was an international competition in the city of Manado and it was a success for the Indonesian Boxing Federation and also for the boxers.
We had boxers from 10 countries and more than 150 athletes attended in Manado City and the level of the Kapolri Cup was high which supported our preparation for the Asian Games. The President of the Indonesian Boxing Federation Mr. Johnny Asadoma supports the Kapolri Cup and we are in the position to be arranged it also in 2019.
The Asian Games preparation is running according our plans and the team will be ready to make surprises in Jakarta. We were facing several difficulties but working hard to arrange a great Asian Games in Jakarta. The Indonesian team prepared in Ukraine and following that we participated in several international competitions.
We would be satisfied with at least one medal in the boxing tournament of the Asian Games but we will have hard job as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, India, Thailand, South Korea, Philippines, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Vietnam and many other Asian countries have got strong potentials.
My favourite boxer in the Indonesian national boxing team is Farrand Papendang, his attitude to the sport and to the work could be a good exemplar for the others as well. Mario Kali, Southeast Asian Games winner Aldoms Suguro, Sunan Agung Amoragam and Saroha Tua Lumbantobing are our further best hopes in Jakarta. We are trying to represent the boxing event with three girls as well but they are not in their top yet.
Our coaching staff worked hard for the developments and I tried to arrange all of the requirements of our boxers and build up close relationship with them to understand their needs.
The Indonesian National Championships will be held in the city of Lampung in October after the Asian Games but everything depends on our performance in the Games. We are planning to host the President’s Cup in Bali next year and also the Kapolri Cup to develop boxing in Indonesia,”
said Ms. Shelly Selowati H. Soejono during her stay in Bali.
