Karina Picson – “The Kapolri Cup was a strong tournament and boxers improved so much”

Mrs. Karina Picson is a well-experienced boxing official who works together with his husband Mr. Edgar Picson in the international stages which makes them a strong boxing couple from the Philippines.
Philippines’ boxing official worked as Technical Delegate at the Kapolri Cup in Manado City in Indonesia this month and answered our ASBC questions about her experiences during this rising international event.
“Actually I already mentioned to everyone in Manado City that I really did not expect that the 2nd edition of the Kapolri Cup to be a strong tournament. There were 9 international countries mostly from Asia with host Indonesia furthermore 22 local teams in the Kapolri Cup. Most of the local teams had strong boxers especially the Indonesian men athletes who attended in Manado City.
I was also surprised to see some boxers from other countries that have really improved so much so I think the level of this tournament was also quite high since there were 157 boxers including 70 women.
The Kapolri Cup was done in an open area in a football field and the ring was covered with a tent. This was a really big challenge for the ITOs, Referees & Judges and mostly for the boxers since the weather was very unpredictable in Manado City. It was usually hot in the afternoons and sometimes it was raining very hard in the evenings.
I think the Indonesian Boxing Federation was very successful in giving their local teams a good international exposure. The Kapolri Cup was also a good test event for the participating Asian countries in preparation for the Asian Games.
I owe the success of the Kapolri Cup to Brig. General of Police President of the Indonesian Boxing Federation Mr. Johnny Asadoma and Secretary General of the Indonesian Boxing Federation Ms. Shelly Selowati H. Soejono and most of all the LOC,”
summarized her experiences Mrs. Karina Picson after the Kapolri Cup.
