Mr. Ram Awale – There is a big enthusiasm in Nepal’s boxing life and we are so thankful for Thailand Boxing Association to the common training before the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships

Nepal is a developing boxing country in the Asian continent but their National Federation has been making good job to improve the sport in the country. Nepal sent boxers to all ASBC events in 2017 and the country is participating with two athletes in the current ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. We asked their President Mr. Ram Awale about their preparations, the current competition, future goals and the upcoming events.
“We have only two boxers who are participating this time at the ASBC Asian Youth Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championship, Ms. Kusum Tamang at the featherweight (57kg) and Mr. Surendra Rai at the bantamweight (56kg). Both of the boxers selected at the National Championships in Jan and later we had another selection in the first week of March in Kathmandu.
Both boxers train with the National Elite team regularly. They trained in Thailand for final preparation just before the competition in the recent two weeks. We are very much thankful to the Thailand Boxing Association for this privilege.
Both boxers are potential candidates to qualify for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games and for the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. Also we are using this competition is one of the preparation for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
I believe this level of ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships is one of the best and top quality competition in the world. I believe our both of our boxers have the potential in the future. Since we gave more international ring experiences and provide them more chances to the high quality level, their self-confident went high to win the fights.
We still need to work hard to implement School of Boxing in Nepal. We are trying to find more sponsors and partners to join to our community. We are encouraging all District and State Associations in Nepal to launch more local level tournaments and from those events some of them may come to the national and international competitions.
There is big enthusiasm in Nepal’s boxing life and new men and women boxers are adding day by day in our beloved sport. Our next competition will be the Nepal Open Men and Women’s Boxing Championship in last week of May in Kathmandu. Furthermore we are planning to take part in the Thailand Open Boxing Tournament which will be held between June 28 and July. How can we miss this wonderful elite championship in Bangkok?
We will be competing in the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games with three women and five men boxers. Our Government provided only 5 boxing quotas for us originally, 3 women and 2 men but after the long conversations which we had they added 3 more quotas in men’s boxing. We are thankful of our Government in this regard,”
said Mr. Ram Awale the President of the Nepal Boxing Association.
