Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira of Thailand elected as President in the ASBC Extraordinary Congress

The Asian Boxing Confederation’s Extraordinary Congress took place during the rest day of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan on Saturday. Following the first part of the Congress, the ASBC Presidential Elections took place in the Oasis Ballroom at the Marriott Hotel in Amman. Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira of Thailand won the ASBC Presidential election, he collected 18 votes against Uzbekistan’s Mr. Saken Polatov’s 11.

After the Roll Call of the ASBC Congress, it is revealed that 30 affiliated Asian National Federations are attending in the session despite of the hard situation which affected the continent in the recent two years.

Bahrain, Cambodia, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen arranged their votes in the ASBC Extraordinary Congress.

Mr. Badr Ali Al Hammadi, the Chairman of the ASBC Ethic Commission arranged his Opening Speech and selected three scrutineers to support the official voting. Mr. Firas Mossa Omran Al-Hesnawy of Iraq, Mr. Nasir Tung of Pakistan and Mr. Mahmoud Alshwarbeh of Jordan have been selected as scrutineers to control the official process. The voting delegates can only stay in their table in the room during the election process in Amman and it was done by paper one by one in alphabetical order of the National Federations.

Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira of Thailand arranged the first speech in English and he mentioned the professionalism and integrity of our sport. Boxing is the most exciting sport in the whole world as he underlined and also mentioned the good IOC connections in his speech.

ASBC Vice-President Mr. Saken Polatov of Uzbekistan started his speech with a video message which introduced Uzbekistan’s huge commitment to boxing, their successes and future strategic plans in our sport. The third Candidate, Mr. Yousuf Ali Al-Kazim of Qatar arranged his speech in his native tongue in Arabic and he decided to withdraw to run for the ASBC Presidency.

Following the voting process, the new ASBC President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira of Thailand made his first speech in his new position. The new ASBC President was thankful for the National Federations and their efforts for the future and invited all participants to the upcoming Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament.
