Mr. Pat Fiacco – It was fun to work in a real professional atmosphere at the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships

Former AIBA EC member and President of Boxing Canada Mr. Pat Fiacco is one of the most experienced boxing official who controlled all of the aspects of the recent ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships. He returned to ASBC’s questions regarding the organization and level of the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships.

Mr. Pat Fiacco worked as Technical Delegate of the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates which was his next work for him in our continent following the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. The event was one of the friendliest among this year’s competitions and delivered fun for the young talents.

“I expected a very good ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships from the athletes and a very well organized event from the ASBC Staff and local organizers. They did not disappoint me and the boxers were also amazing. They were able to showcase their skills at 15 and 16 years of age, the rest of the world should pay attention on these talents. It was fun to work in a real professional atmosphere.

The overall organization from the Opening Ceremonies to the end of the competition was spectacular. It was such an amazing Opening Ceremony that many of the organizers of events can learn from.

The biggest strengths of the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships were the high level of competition between the boxers. Altogether 26 countries represented in the event and we could follow several big talents in Fujairah where I did not recognize any weaknesses in terms of organization and the level of the event.

As a result of the performance of these junior boxers the future of Asia’s boxing is very positive for me. It was nice to see medals spread throughout the Asian continent which means there is strength and potential everywhere.

The nations which impressed me most was Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, India and China in this ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships. However, I was really impressed with the boxers from the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Palestine. I say this because they boxed and fought in Fujairah with such pride and determination and I believe they will be powerhouses in the future.

All of the participated boxers were my personal bests for many reasons. Those that had strong skills were brilliant, those that lacked of boxing knowledge made it up for it in determination and enthusiasm. Let’s not forget that these boxers are 15 and 16 years old girls and boys and not adults but their faces were very inspirational and performed like veterans of the sport. They were truly respectful of each other and showed great sportsmanship in Fujairah.

I believe my next competition in the busy calendar will be the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Mongolia next month. I think Asia is developing at a very fast rate. These junior boxers have demonstrated that Asia will be one of the bests in the Boxing World,” summarized Mr. Pat Fiacco his experiences as Technical Delegate in Fujairah.
