Mr. Lenny D’Gama – Summarizing all aspects of the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships, the event was quite good

Mr. Lenny D’Gama was one of the R&J Evaluators in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The Indian boxing official is a well-known person in the international boxing events since decades and he has all of the experiences how to host competitions as well.

Mr. Lenny D’Gama shared with us his opinions about the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and he informed us also about the Big Bout Indian Boxing League and some further important events as the Olympic Qualifiers.

“The ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships was quite well-organized in the Mongolian capital. Even the volunteers of the competition were boxers and worked towards the success of the continental event.

The level of the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships was high but it could be stronger whether DPR Korea, Vietnam, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia and some others also could not attend in Mongolia. They could have stayed at home due the extreme cold weather which affected our work in Ulaanbaatar. A better venue setup will be required in the next competition in Mongolia.

I think the Indian girls performed well in the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships taking five gold medals, except the boxer at the light flyweight (48kg) who did not delivered her very best in this event. Regarding the men’s boxers, it was a disappointment in Ulaanbaatar where only two of them reached the finals and got silver medals.

The Indian team have been focusing to the Olympic Qualifiers and we feel that five of the boxers should make it and could get spots for Tokyo. Unfortunately, the much delayed Big Bout Boxing League will disrupt the training but will take it positively as our boxers can fight against world class opponents

The project of the Indian Big Bout Boxing League is an ideal way to build up our boxers with the constant competition with some of the best boxers in the world. Many of the boxers are focusing already to the Qualification Events and don’t want to risk injuries before the February event which will be held in Wuhan, China.

As regards to the standard of the Referees & Judges in the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships, some were good but there were many who needed more experience and international exposures. There were some young promising Referees & Judges in Ulaanbaatar who were interested in learning more and their future looks good in long term.

Summarizing all aspects of the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships, the event was quite good for the boxers, delegations and officials,” said India’s official Mr. Lenny D’Gama after the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships.
