Mr. Kezang Jigme – “The President of the Bhutan National Olympic Committee fully believes our hard work in Bhutan’s boxing”

Bhutan Boxing Federation is doing superb job to develop the country’s boxing life and following six years of hard work their boxers are now competitive also against the top nations which they proved in the first competition day of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.
Bhutan has been sending teams to the AIBA and ASBC events since 2013 continuously and women’s boxing is one of their new program in the country. We asked their General Secretary Mr. Kezang Jigme to introduce Bhutan’s boxing life, their issues, strengths and their plans for the near future.
“We did our best but could not train enough for this event as our boxers are students and they had to take care of their studies as well therefore we were not able to organize international training camps for them this time. I am sure following our developments we will be even more tough opponents for anyone in Asia in the near future.
We are ambitious and we began our road with smaller competitions and going ahead to the level of the South Asian Games, ASBC events and Asian Games. Currently we don’t have good coaches and training hall, furthermore the equipments are old but we are doing our best in Bhutan. Our biggest strength is our President in the Bhutan National Olympic Committee who believes us and our hard work and supports our efficiencies.
In the national team we have got 15 schoolboys, 10 juniors, 5 youth boxers and 10 elite boxers in Bhutan. We will have two club events and one national competition in the upcoming months to give chance to our boxers. The Bhutan Junior & Youth National Championships will be held in the period of May and June.
We are planning to take part in the upcoming Thailand Open Boxing Tournament which will be held between June 28 and July 7 but it depends on the budget of our National Olympic Committee. We are fully focusing to this year’s Asian Games where we will be competing with 6 men and 1 woman boxer,”
said the General Secretary of the Bhutan Boxing Federation Mr. Kezang Jigme.
