Mr. Fawzi Asafra – “We are planning to develop our infrastructure, coaches and referees in Palestine”

It is great effort from Palestine the country was able to send a delegation to the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships to Bangkok which shows the excellent commitment to boxing in the developing country. We asked the President of the Palestinian Boxing Federation Mr. Fawzi Asafra to introduce their current boxing life, their efforts for the development and their upcoming events.
“We tried to do our best to prepare well to the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships but we have got not enough sparring partners in Palestine due our low number of quality boxers. Our boxers could do a minimum preparation to the Bangkok event due their school duties as well
We were not able to take our boxers to an international training camp so we prepared to the event at home. Palestinian Boxing Federation needs more financial background, we have to develop our infrastructure and the skills of our coaches and referees as well. We are doing heroic job in the shadow of the big nations who have got history in boxing.
Our first step is to develop the level of our coaches and referees in the sport and send some of our best boxers to more international events in the future to meet with the bests and do sparrings against tough opponents. We are so thankful for the Asian Boxing Confederation and for the other organizations who supported us in the recent one year.
We are working in our camps with 65 selected school student boxers and we hold our National Championships for each age group a few weeks ago. We will be hosting our next national event for our schoolboys and high school students in July.
Our next main goal is the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games where we would like to show our potential and development. As preparation for that event we are planning to send the team to the Thailand Open Boxing Tournament but everything depends on our financial situation in the upcoming months,” said the President of the Palestinian Boxing Federation Mr. Fawzi Asafra.
