Mousavi, Gheslagi lead Iran’s 12-strong team for Asian elite meet

Seyed Shahin Mousavi and Meysam Gheslaghi will banner the 12-man Iranian national team for the ASBC Asian Elite Championships 2022 slated on October 30 to November 13 in Amman, Jordan.

Mousavi, a two-time Asian bronze medalist and a Tokyo Olympics campaigner, will aim for a higher podium finish in the middleweight (75kg) division.

Gheslaghi, for his part, will go for the gold this time after taking a silver in the light heavyweight (81kg) class of the previous Asian elite tourney held in Dubai in 2021.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Kamali (light-60kg) will replace AIBA World Championships 2021 bronze winner and Asian Elite Championships 2021 silver finisher Daniyal Shahbakhsh who is still recovering from a serious injury.

Also in the squad selected by head coach Mr. Alireza Esteki are veterans Sajjad Mohammadpour (feather-57kg) and Iman Ramezanpour (super heavy-+92kg) as well as youngest national standout Mostafa Rigi (fly-51kg).

Iran hosted its Elite National Championships as a selection tournament then arranged a joint training camp with India in Tehran in preparation for this year’s Asian elite meet.

The Iranian national squad is eager to eclipse its two-silver, two-bronze medal haul in the past edition two years ago.
