More than 250 boxers are planning to attend in the upcoming Vietnam National Championships

December is the month of the National Championships throughout the Asian continent, many of the National Federation hosts their event in the upcoming weeks. The Vietnam National Championships for their elite women, elite men, youth female and youth male boxers will be held in the city of Bac Ninh from November 27 until December 6. The Vietnam National Championships is an important selection event for them before the SEA Games.

Vietnam is planning to send a team to the upcoming AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships which moved from December 2021 to March 2022. Their women’s boxers are among the bests in the Asian continent, their Nguyen Thi Tam claimed gold medal at the Ho Chi Minh City 2017 ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships. Vietnam also earned one bronze medal at the 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

Vietnam qualified two boxers to the Tokyo Olympic Games which was their first participation in the event since the qualification process has been introduced before the Barcelona edition 29 years ago. Their next big step guaranteed strong development in the country which could host national events during the pandemic period.

Vietnam’s capital city, Hanoi will be the host of the next 31st Southeast Asian Games which is the most important multisport event in the region. Boxing is one of the popular sports in the Southeast Asian Games and Vietnam has got the potential to win titles in the regional multisport event on home soil. Altogether thirteen weight classes will be held in the boxing event of the Southeast Asian Games and Vietnam Boxing Federation is planning to attend in each of the category.

According to the registrations, there are 27 teams throughout the country which are planning to attend in the National Championships. More than 250 boxers registered to attend in the elite and youth age groups and all of the participants must bring their negative Covid-19 tests to the national event. All of the sessions and contests of the Vietnam National Championships will be live streamed in the Vietnam Boxing Federation’s Fan page and social media sites.

The eleven male final contests were also held in the last edition of the Vietnam Boxing Federation’s Elite National Championships in Bac Ninh province one year ago in 2020. Tokyo Olympian Nguyen Van Duong and Southeast Asian Games winner Truong Dinh Hoang dominated their finals in the event while Tran Duc Tho defeated veteran Nguyen Van Hai. Former AIBA Women’s Junior World Champion Vuong Thi Vy returned to the competitions after a break and she won her featherweight (57kg) final in the national event one year ago and she is ready to defend her throne.
