Mongolia’s Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu has done a superb and quick KO in the opening day of the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup

The new edition of the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup began in the Mongolian capital city in Ulaanbaatar with its first competition day. President of the Asian Boxing Confederation and AIBA Vice-President Mr. Serik Konakbayev is visiting the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup in Mongolia. The host country’s Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu was the hero of the first day following his fast KO success.
The Ulaanbaatar Box Cup is a strong preparation event for the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games and another selection tournament for the Mongolian boxers and other participating nation’s athletes. Among the top Asian boxing nations Kazakhstan, South Korea, DPR Korea, Thailand, China, host Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan and Iran are taking part in the new edition of the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup.
India’s Sarjubala Shamjetsabam Devi was silver medallist in the Jeju 2014 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and after a few poor years she moved up to the flyweight (51kg). The Indian boxer reduced the fighting distance successfully against China’s Yu Yahong and advanced to the quarter-finals in Ulaanbaatar.
South Korea’s Oh Yeon Ji is two-time ASBC Asian Women’s Champion who had to meet also a Chinese woman boxer first as Sarjubala Shamjetsabam Devi. The 28-year-old Korea lightweight (60kg) boxer had some problems with her range against China’s Li Zijun but Oh found her best punches in time to beat her opponent.
Iran’s Omid Ahmadisafa won the Taimanov & Utemisov Memorial Tournament in Atyrau, Kazakhstan two months ago and arrived to the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup to show his skills and prepare well to the Asian Games. The 26-year-old Iranian light flyweight (49kg) boxer eliminated a dangerous opponent Mongolia’s Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu who is the No.1 in the host country’s team in the lowest category.
DPR Korea’s Kim Un Song attended in the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event and claimed bronze medal in the Thailand International Invitation Tournament in 2017. The North Korean boxer moved up to the flyweight (52kg) in the recent months and he was quicker than Thailand’s Artid Paroengmaemoei on Day1.
South Korea’s Lee Hee Seop was silver medallist in the Pavlodar 2016 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and joined to the elite age group this January. Lee received the right to represent his country among the elite boxers in the very first time and impressed in Ulaanbaatar where he was able to beat Mongolia’s Bayarsaikhan Enkh-Amgalan by unanimous decision.
Mongolia’s Summer Universiade winner and Rio 2016 Olympian Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu was the favourite against Chinese Taipei’s Kao Shih Yen but he spent only a really short time in the ring on Day1. The 26-year-old Mongolian bantamweight (56kg) boxer landed dangerous punches and he knocked out his younger rival in Ulaanbaatar.
Mongolia’s Battumur Misheelt was silver medallist in the Indian Open Boxing Tournament in January and the 21-year-old boxer is not only a talent but now but a strong hope for the host country. Misheelt started better than Thailand’s Srithep Anu and he was able to keep his rhythm until the end of the final gong in Ulaanbaatar.
India’s Amman 2013 ASBC Asian Champion Shiva Thapa is trying to regain his place in the national top team therefore he was focused against Mongolia’s Oyunbileg Munkhsaikhan in his debuting contest in Ulaanbaatar. The Indian lightweight (60kg) boxer, who attended in the last two Olympic Games as well, was too strong for his Mongolian opponent on Day1.
Mongolia’s London 2012 Olympic Games Uranchimeg Munkh-Erdene is a 36-year-old veteran but he was able to beat still Chinese Taipei’s talented Kai Yu Hsien in the opening day of the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup. In the same light welterweight (64kg) Mongolia’s Rio 2016 Olympian Baatarsukh Chinzorig won all of the rounds as the scoring of 10:9 against Sri Lanka’s Dinidu Saparamadu and also advanced to the last eight as Munkh-Erdene.
