Meet the Asian Boxing Confederation Board of Directors – MR. ALI TAKLEEF SHAHEED (IRQ)

The Extraordinary Congress of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) in Amman, Jordan last March saw the re-election of Iraqi Boxing Federation president Ali Takleef Shaheed as a member of the Board of Directors.

Shaheed, who was elected to lead the federation in 2018, put up crucial changes in the boxing landscape of Iraq and made significant contributions in the Asian region.

Utilizing his strong connection with the government, the Iraqi Boxing Federation enjoyed bigger funds compared to the previous decade which resulted in the massive improvement of their national standouts.

Their boxers were able to join all the tournaments organized by the ASBC amid the COVID-19 pandemic and they reaped numerous medals particularly in the junior, youth and under-22 age groups.

Women’s boxing in the country also flourished again under the watch of Shaheed along with his secretary general Ali Abdulzahra Jawad. They were able to host the first Women’s National Championships at the end of 2021 and their female fighters attended the most recent ASBC Asian Boxing Championships.

He represented Iraq as a voting delegate in the latest International Boxing Association (IBA) Congress held in Istanbul, Turkey last month.

On the continental level, Shaheed was voted as a member of the ASBC Executive Committee in 2019 and was appointed to take part in the managing committee of the ASBC Fund and Development Commission in December 2020.

The former Arab champion in the 80s has also been a member of the ASBC Council along with president Pichai Chunhavajira of Thailand, vice president Aziz Kozhambetov of Kazakhstan, Rasha Alkhamis of Saudi Arabia and Dian Gomes of Sri Lanka since the second Board Meeting last April in Phuket, Thailand.

Shaheed’s current term together with the other members of the ASBC Board of Directors will end in 2024.
